To get to #1 ODI ranking, India has to..

It depends on how the 4-3 is distributed - if Australia wins the earlier matches and India the later ones we will be number 1' date=' but will stay at number 2 if we win the early ones and lose the ones later on.[/quote'] That is a good point. Because higher ranked side stands to lose more than lower ranked side.

Which brings about another amongst a lot of other flaws in the rankings. Dead rubbers are given equal weight as live matches. If India win the series by the 5th game 4-1, rest their main players and lose the last two matches they would be ranked lower than if they are down 1-3 after the 4th match and win the last three matches. Quite funny and stupid at the same time.

If India wins 4-3 by winning nest 3 and losing last two: 1 Australia 34 4408 130 40 5066 127 -3 2 India 32 3930 123 38 4789 126 +3 If India wins 5-2 in any fashion> 1 Australia 34 4408 130 40 4969 124 -6 2 India 32 3930 123 38 4887 129 +6
