Its always good to have back-up openers in form in case Sehwag/Gambhir either miss out through injury or possibly even get dropped due to lack of form (doesn't seem likely now, but could happen later). He struggled in Australia last time but everyone deserves another chance if they earn it, and it looks like he is earning it. Besides, you don't score 13,000+ first-class runs if you are a bad player.
saneindian Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 When the big 3 (SRT,RD and VVS) go out in next couple of years from test cricket, the likes of Jaffer, Badri, Dhawan, Vijay, Tiwary with considerable first class experience would help us through the transition period of 2-3 years before the likes of Raina, Rohit, Kohli, Pujara, Mukund etc mature into good enough test players (all will be 25-26 by then) with 1-2 of them going onto serve the country for a decade or so.

He should probably replace Dravid in the national team.

ViruRulez Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Good move. Badri was kept as a precaution and so it is fine. I would have liked to see Ojha instead of Mishra. I just feel Ojha to be a better spinner but Mishra can also bat a bit perhaps and so the move is fair.
