THE West Indies will be able to send a full-strength squad to Australia next month after leading players ended with strike action. More... Full strength West Indies team to tour Australia Submit comment Ben Dorries October 14, 2009 10:18am A FULL-strength West Indian side is coming to Australia this summer . . . but don't expect much competitive cricket from this Calypso rabble. Leading players have ended their strike action but even the top West Indian side will still be flogged by Australia in three Tests this summer. The bottom line is the West Indies have won just two of their past 18 Tests and have not won a Test in Australia since 1997. However cricket marketing officials around Australia are breathing a sigh of relief that the West Indies Cricket Board and players' association agreed to end their bitter contract dispute. A three-day meeting between WICB president Julian Hunte and WIPA chief executive Dinanath Ramnarine led to "all outstanding matters" being "settled amicably". There had been fears West Indies would send another second-string outfit, like the one which was beaten in a Test series by Bangladesh, for the three-Test contest in Australia.

Finally, some common sense has prevailed. Way to go Mr. Julian Hunte. Keep it up! The thrid test will be played in Perth...should be interesting to see Fiddy, Taylor, Roach and even Tonge on the bouncy wicket of WACA. Once upon a time, Perth was considered a home away from home for the Windies...happy old days:((.

They are still going to get pasted downunder but there will be little fight in offering (from this WI side). Current WI side depends way too much on Gayle's blitz be it ODI's or Tests.

Gayle vs Ganga Chris Gayle's future as West Indies captain will be determined in the next week, with selectors set to recommend to the board their choice of leader for the forthcoming tour of Australia. Daren Ganga, who skippered Trinidad & Tobago to the final of the Champions League Twenty20, is being touted as a potential leadership challenger to Gayle, but Ernest Hilaire, the WICB chief executive, insisted no decision on the West Indian captaincy had yet been made. Gayle was due to captain against Ganga in a limited-overs President's Cup match in Guyana on Wednesday, but withdrew from the match due to illness. T&T posted a thumping 90-run victory over the Carlton Baugh-captained Jamaicans in a rain-effected match, continuing a triumphant month which began with their charge to the final of the Champions League in India. Despite previous suggestions he was unwilling to continue as West Indies captain, Gayle confirmed last week he would be happy to lead the touring party to Australia. Hilaire, though, would not confirm whether Gayle would be reinstated to the captaincy following his strike-related absence, leaving the door open for a leadership change. "The selectors will meet over the next few days and will make a recommendation to the board," said Hilaire, who added that all players who took strike action the board would be considered for the tour of Australia. "I am also aware that the players have announced that they are available and, more importantly, want to play if selected. WICB has always expressed the view that players must be both available for selection and available to play. In this regard, I think we have made considerable progress." The President's Cup represents a important step in the normalisation of relations between the WICB and the player's union (WIPA) after the bitter and protracted industrial dispute. The six-day tournament is doubling as a selection trial for the tour of Australia, and with all players available for their respective teams, the prospect of an understrength team representing the Caribbean in Australia appears to have been averted. "Our discussions with WIPA have been excellent and we are looking forward to building on our progress in resolving all outstanding issues by designing a new partnership," Hilaire said. "There have been attempts in the past but we are sincere in developing that partnership based on mutual trust and co-operation. We accept that there will be differences but we must never allow our differences to destroy our relationship." http://www.cricinfo.com/westindies/content/current/story/432146.html Is Ganga good enough a batsman to make it into the side and be captain? He's always shown he has potential, but will he be able to consistently deliver with the bat. Or will they take his captaincy and runs are a bouns

Ganga isn't good enough to make the team. Darren Bravo/ Brendan Nash(he could be the unfortunate one to miss out due to the strike) are much better batsmen than Ganga. This is my XI, anyway. C Gayle A Barath R Sarwan © D Bravo S Chanders Dw Bravo D Ramdin S Benn/ D Sammy J Taylor/ Tonge K Roach F Edwards * I am not sure if Sarwan is interested in captaincy, if he isn't then Gayle should be retained as the captain.

Gayle back as Windies captain to tour Australia Associated Press Bridgetown, November 03, 2009 First Published: 10:40 IST(3/11/2009) Last Updated: 10:41 IST(3/11/2009) Chris Gayle was reinstated as West Indies captain to lead a full-strength squad on a three-test tour of Australia later this month. The 30-year-old Jamaican was appointed yesterday after he and other leading players had withdrawn from a home series against Bangladesh in July and the Champions Trophy in September due to a long-standing contract conflict with the West Indies Cricket Board. Only four players that made themselves available during the strike action - allrounder Darren Sammy, batsman Travis Dowlin and fast bowlers Kemar Roach and Gavin Tonge - were selected to tour Australia from November 18. Gayle, who has played 82 tests, will open the batting with 19-year-old Adrian Barath, the only player in the squad without international experience. Barath, from Trinidad & Tobago, had been chosen in a 13-man squad for the test series against Bangladesh before the dispute between WICB and the West Indies Players' Association. Squad: Chris Gayle (capt), Adrian Barath, Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, Gavin Tonge.
