India Australia contests are generally epic. Even though their arch rivals are different, quality of India vs Australia cricket is often memorable. India vs Australia, 1987 world cup, Chennai http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65093.html India was well on course till 40th over as you can see. 203 for 2 if my memory serves right at 40th over mark. Required mere 68 in the last 10 overs with 8 wickets in hands. Out of nowhere we just collapsed and lost by 1 run. India vs Australia, 1992 world cup, Brisbane Woolongabba http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/65129.html One of the match that turned Ravi Shastri's house into target practice for fans. An appallingly slow innings. Azharuddin and Manjrekar produced a breathtaking partnership before both of them got run out due to brilliant fielding by Aussies. Their fielding bailed them out from a certain loss. India required 40 runs in 8 overs with 6 wickets in hands. India lost by 3 runs 1996 world cup match where India was on course to win but ended up collapsing and lost by 17 runs. Tie Test Sydney Test where we lost from a certain draw position Mumbai Test where Australia lost from a certainly winning position Chennai Test where pendulum was swinging wildly during 4th innings chase India winning an ODI chasing 195 from a position 64 for 6 not long ago. Amazing contests with high quailty cricket. This match is no exception

The tied test in '86 and then the Reliance WC match in '87 really triggered what has turned out to be an absolutely fantastic rivalry. No doubt Australia have had the upper hand, but India has been the only team to meet them eye to eye on a consistent basis during times when they were arguably the best ever cricket team.
