Kanpur opts for ‘safe’ pitch Khurram Habib, Hindustan Times New Delhi, November 20, 2009 First Published: 22:03 IST(20/11/2009) Last Updated: 22:04 IST(20/11/2009) The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) is taking no chances when it comes to pitch preparation, ahead of India’s second Test against Sri Lanka that begins in Kanpur on the 24th. In order to avoid a repeat of the last Test here, which finished inside three days (India-South Africa in April 2008), and having taken note of how the relaid Delhi wicket played recently, the state association is planning to use a ‘tried and tested wicket’ and not the newly relaid wicket. Earlier, a pitch relaid by the state Sports Department was being considered for the Test. “The sports department and its curator wanted the match on the relaid track, but after deliberations, we decided to use a tried and tested track,” said J.B. Saxena, who is the curator with the UPCA. When contacted, the UP sports department chief curator Shiv Kumar said, “Well, eventually, the final decision rests with the state cricket association.” Was the choice of pitch made by what happened at Delhi? Daljeet Singh, the head of the grounds and pitches committee said, “I was there during the discussion and the UPCA wants to use the centre wicket, primarily as a precautionary measure because the experience in Delhi and Hyderabad wasn’t that good. “It took more than a couple of years for the wicket in Hyderabad to settle and therefore I guess they don’t want to take chances.” Saxena added, “Our main concern is to have a full five-day game and we don’t want to experiment on a relaid track. We want to play safe.”

When a match gets over in less than 5 full days (say even 4 and half days)' date=' they lose airtime and hence they lose out on ad revenue. That's why BCCI wants flat tracks where they will get a5 days of airtime.[/quote'] But over time after watching drawn test after drawn test, the viewer numbers are going to be zilch and they won't make any money anyway. Why are these so damn retarded and don't understand economics 101

Why are these so damn retarded and don't understand economics 101[/quote'] But BCCI is not exactly bothered about test cricket's future. The cost to profit ratio is much better in LOI than in tests. If test cricket goes extinct, it will be better from a commercial POV. They want more T20s and ODIs. That's where the money is.
