StriKe
Gambhir unavailable for third Test India will be without the services of opening batsman Gautam Gambhir, who will be attending his sister's wedding, for the third Test against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. Gambhir has been in prime form in this series with centuries in each of the two Tests. The rest of the squad, which was initially picked for the first two Tests, has been retained with no additional replacements. http://www.cricinfo.com/indvsl2009/content/story/436827.html Link to comment

champ
is that so important ? a series win is at balance !! Link to comment
bharat297
Um ... why would Dravid open? Why not pick Wasim Jaffer? He's the next best opener in India ... so it only makes sense that he be picked if Gambhir is unavailable. Dravid is doing fine as no.3. Jaffer and Sehwag have opened before and Jaffer has had some success at International Level so in many ways it makes sense. Link to comment

SachDan
Seems like Gambhir's family didn't trust BCCI's itinerary :hysterical: Link to comment
ludhianvi
vijay!!! Yes, he seems the obvious choice since he's been hanging around in the squad for a long time. Lucky break for him to get a game instead of carrying the drinks. Plus he's been doing well in the domestics as well so it would make sense to open with him. Link to comment

ESPN
Gautam Gambhir to sit out third Test Gautam Gambhir will miss the third Test against Sri Lanka in Mumbai, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced. Left-hand batsman Gambhir, who scored back-to-back centuries in Ahmedabad and the ongoing Test in Kanpur, has withdrawn from the team in order to attend to his sister's wedding. India's selectors have decided not to make any changes to the team picked for the first two Tests, which means no replacement has been called for Gambhir. "Gautam Gambhir will not be available for the Test, on account of his sister's wedding on 3 December," the BCCI said. "The strength of the squad for the Mumbai Test will thus be 14." "The All-India Senior Selection Committee has retained the same side for the third Test of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka, to be played at Mumbai from 2 December 2009 to 6 December 2009," BCCI secretary N Srinivasan said in a statement today. Indian Team: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, M Vijay, Pragyan Ojha, S Sreesanth and S Badrinath. The final Test starts on December 2. Link to comment
fineleg
Will it be M. Vijay or Badri? I suppose as opener MV will win the spot, unless RD opens. Good luck to Vijay, he has been hanging around the squad for a while. Link to comment

ViruRulez
Fine. If it is his own sister's wedding then he deserves to attend it. However, he knew the ICC schedule and hence, should have kept the wedding on non-match dates. Anyways hopes he enjoys and we will miss his services. Hopefully Vijay or Badri can fill a part of his shoes. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
He is in supreme touch. I am extremely disappointed he is missing out. You have to cash in when you are in form. He already missed one due to ban. Link to comment
ViruRulez
viru bhai, life goes on. cannot plan all things exactly. Yup I agree. It is not anybody's mistake. But I was just saying that the ICC and BCCI announced this series a long time ago. So, he could have got the wedding fixed accordingly so that it does not clash with India's matches. But anyways hope he enjoys his time and is even better when he returns for the ODIs. :icflove: Link to comment
