Mr. Wicket
You've also got to love his absurd record - piles of runs in Pakistan, piles more in the UAE - and then an average under 30 for 'away' ODIs. :hehe: Link to comment
TheWall
Anwar's 194 was a sublime innings. Why are you lot trying to denigrate an awesome innings ? Sour grapes, evidently yeah.. facts are always sour.. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Link to comment
DomainK
Anwar was a half decent opener. Looks bright amongst other openers Pakistan has produced. Butt, Farhat.....Anwar. That's what openers like Butt and Farhat do, they make any half decent player look like a legend. Link to comment

TSAG_RGB
Not at all, i am not pointing only this one superb innings he played... He was a very good opener. FULL STOP... Anwar was a FTB and not a very good opener. Link to comment

vvvslaxman
Anwar was a classy opener in the mould of Upul Taranga, Tim Mcintosh :--D Link to comment
S.Bond
Saeed Anwar was a very good opener... He was not a FTB, he was not a minnow basher... All records are excluding minnows (because i NEVER look to records including minnows when talking about the greatness of a cricket, as you can't proove any kind of greatness agaisnt them): Saeend Anwar a stilish left handed opener in the 90's for Pakistan. He played 46 tests in wich he batted 76 times, scored 3432 runs at 45.76 with 10 centuries. That makes a century every 7.6 innings.(He was not out only once, otherwise he would have an even better average). His average at home is 41 for 22 test matches played, way lesser than his away average of 49.74 in 23 tests with 7 hundreds. 47 in australia, 42.30 in england, 57.8 in india, 34 in south africa (his worst) and 74 in sri lanka. That are very good stats... His average against austrlia is 59.06 with 3 hundreds (in all three matches mc grath was playing), 57.8 against india, 57.43 against sri lanka, 52.25 agaisnt new zeland, 38.92 agaisnt england. He didn't played agaisnt south africa , his average was 23.25. He also averages 19.20 agaisnt south africa but he played just three matches agaisnt them, and that is due to a pair agaisnt a bowling attack composed of, bishop, ambrose, walsh and malcom marshall... in a match no team scored even 200... His first and 2nd innings average are almost same both at 45. .. Out of his 10 hundreds, 7 were match winning ones, an he averages 68.28 in wins, wich is formidable... His two match loosing hundreds came agaisnt australia, because pakistan rarely win or even draw agaisnt them... His match winning hundreds came not only at home, actually just one was at home, 2 in sri lanka, 1 in wellington, 1 at the oval, and the two taht deserves speciale mentionning : 118 in south africa, durban, a match in which the highest score in one innings was 259, Anwar socred a second innings hundred agaisnt a bowling atack of : PS devilliers, Allan Donnald, Shaun Pollock, all three are contenders of a spot in south african all times greatest bowlers, plus all rounders like kallis and klusener... The second one was a 188 not out agaisnt india in kolkata, i don't think i have to tell a lot about this one because all of you should know how important and how good that was, another second innings efforts, 188 out of 316 in a brilliant test... He averaged just 31.86 in 11 draw matches with one hundred, they are normally the better batting tracks... Most of the batsmen averges more than 60 and have a lot of hundreds in draws, because of the easness of the pitch. We can finish by saying that his test average was the 11th best in the 90s, and 8th best if you look at players that have played at least 20 tests in that decade... That is worth mentionning because averages are a lot higher nowadays because of better pitches... So i hope we all agree that Saeed Anwar was a very good Opener... And yes he was pakistani for those who prefer to write down he was a very good pakistani opener. Link to comment

He asked for a runner to do the movement part of batting. He does the still-part of it only. Very still-ish. Link to comment

Pak_Forever
Anwar was one of the finest openers this game has ever seen. He also used to bat on sporting pitches in the 90s against great pace bowlers unlike FTBs who have opened on flattest tracks most of their career in this decade....Shewag and Sach... Now the course of this thread will change from Anwar bashing. :--D Link to comment
