Yuvraj must go on a diet!...and return to domestic cricket to regain form.

Yuvraj Singh edged early to his demise - he has always been an iffy batsman against the moving ball and quality spin (i.e he's a bit of a tubby ftb). It's an indictment on Indian cricket that his name used to be relentlessly pushed forward as a Test replacement for VVS Laxman. Through this tournament, you could see that Yuvraj's old habits were rearing their head again. Today, Welegedera got one to land outside off and veer further away and Yuvraj stabbed it behind. It shouldn't have surprised anyone who has closely followed his career.

I blame it mainly on Yuvi's lack of involvement in domestic cricket. That is where you play spinners day in day out. You can play them without any pressure.
I agree, he needs to gets some decent overs in, like Dravid did before the First Sri Lanka Test. If I were Dhoni I tell that we would drop him for the Bangladesh tests so that he could pick up form in time for SA.

^He can do the same in Banglas tho. Seems like hes just got complacent. He should be told his place is under threat- in both forms of the game -unless he sorts his fitness out. he is only like 28 ffs, he should be at his physical peak

The way Rohit Sharma went down in instalments to stop that a drive from doing to the boundary was truly a sight to behold. How some members of India's most elite sports team can be so out of shape is something that is hard to fathom.
Agreed, I'm embarrassed seeing how fat guys like Yuvraj and Rohit are. Rohit has just ballooned in a matter of two years.

See the menu for the lunch/snacks that these guys eat during matches in India, and you will know thats not the food an athlete should be eating. Gambhir, Yuvraj, Raina, Bhajji, Zaheer even Dhoni have all put on lots of weight. Had it been all muscles it would have been ok, but unfortunately in this case, the weight is all down to the fat. Hence thos beer bellies and an inability to bend down in time. Kirsten needs to put them on diet plan, if anyone has a problem, irrespective of how big a star you are, drop him from the team to send the message across. Fitness levels of some of these guys is a huge embarassment.

Yes but it's sad that young pro players don't have enough self motivation from within to look after their body! Look at 23 year old Raina's chin :nervous: 104289.1.jpg

Exactly!

i totally agree but how much power has Kirsten got to enforce that!! when will we realise that samosas and chai is hardly a healthy snack between matches!! they all need to go on a lean protien diet and some flab busting cardio plans!

Dhoni used to be slightly fatter when he was new to Indian team. He has definitely shed some weight. He looks much fitter. Kaif is a good example of fitness. Terrific athleticism. Lean, mean. Back in the 80s our cricketers were like how Pandey is. Some of the leanest guys are Kaif, Badrinath, Karthik, Ishant. Actually M.Vijay looks lot fitter without much fat.

He's definitely suffering from some nagging fitness issue. There were even reports before Idea cup that he might not be fit for this series also. It could that his ankle/knee problem is affecting his fitness regimen. Meanwhile, this is Sachin Tendulkar during one of the promotional events for the move '3 Idiots'. sachin-watch-three-idiots.jpg Sachin has never been unfit per se, but there was a time he looked sort of 'chubby'. He seems to go have gotten rid of that look and looks super fit now. And its no coincidence that his form has looked up since the time he has found closure on his tennis elbow problem.

Yuvi has had a bad few months yes. But its amazing how quickly everyone forgets his total brilliance for quite a few years. Everyone is all over him. He is a class act and a real match winner in limited overs cricket. He is a champ and will be back to shut evryone up.

Everyone agrees that he is one of our integral part of the ODI outfit. Another fact is, he has been gaining weight exponentially which effects his fielding. Indians are generally poor fielders and we have a very few bunch who could pull off spectaculars and UV is one of them. With the weight he is carrying, Nehra can outperform in terms of fielding (only).

I agree with everthing you posted to be honest, apart from the bit I highlighted in bold, as I feel you went a bit OTT there!
