Am I the only one that finds this embarrasing?

Who cares if they are upset over such a thing? The Indian team hasn't gone there to give them a crash course of confidence building. How can you beat an opposition without making them upset? What next? Lose a couple of matches to make the them happy?
How do comments like "They can't take 20 wickets", "They are an ordinary side" etc reflect on us ? The Australians are often accused of lacking humility and grace, yet how is this any different ? There is a time and place for everything.
so why exactly r they upset?
What do you think ?

Again ... Its not about making them upset. Its about us ... our team, our image, the way we carry ourselves. I dont want the Indian team to be remembered as a team that picked on minnow countries. Im not even talking about BD's retaliating statements. Theyre irrelevant to the topic. The topic was about Sehwags original statements. What was the need??
And what about it? Sehwag is a man of a few and straight words. He does not have a complex mind like a few others have. That's the way he bats and that's the way he talks. Don't try to put him in a predefined frame of diplomatically perfect cricketer that we like. It's rare to have someone that straight. And I am happy for that. As far as our image is concerned, don't bother about it. The more you worry about image, the more you will slip downwards. We have done that for centuries. There was a time when there was a rule of Doordarshan for commentators not to speak a single word against the umpires/ officials or the players. So if an umpire made a mistake, irrespective of how horrible it was, the commentators would say something politically correct like "He has been given out" and say no more. The came the trend of specialist commentators like ex-players and the day Gavaskar said, for the first time, "It went off the pad and hence it was technically not out", there was a huge uproar. How could Gavaskar say something like that???? There is a fine line between being politically correct being soft. There is a fine line between politeness and cowardice. In competitions, politeness is often mistaken as cowardice. If we were not that effin concerned about being politically correct, Slater would not have the guts to do what he did to Dravid. No Australian would dare do it to us today. So eff political correctness. Stop thinking about your image. As long as we are not abusing, we are all right. It's always good to have a few Sehwags in your team.

Sehwag said BD cant tke 20 Indian wickets. its as much a statement of faith in Indian batting as it is about BD bowling but i wonder if anyones looking it like that. n humility is giving the opponent its due not praising them unfairly
What do you think ?
i dunno . i thought it was about Sehwags comment about BD being ordinary but u said its not that

If Dhoni or Tendulkar or Dravid had said i would agree. But being it is Sehwag and knowing about Sehwagology you cannot control these things. We just have to get used to it. No big deal.
seriousy how difficult is it to understand sehwagology?.i cant beileve we are still talking about this!

As I said before, Sehwag does not care about Bangla cricket enough to worry about picking on them. You can see it in his batting, he gets bored playing against their weak attack, whereas against Aus, Pak, SL etc. he makes massive hundreds. All that happened was that Sehwag was asked a question and he responded to it. What you are wishing for is for Sehwag to have made a Sachin style speech on "they are a hard working bunch, they may improve etc.", in other words you are asking for Sehwag to act like someone he isn't and never will be. In the past Sehwag has attacked Shoaib Akthar for failing to pick up wickets and claimed the Aussies will get thrashed by India, to him similarly he said what he truly thinks about Bangla cricket. He is not treating Bangla any differently to other sides in his forthrightness, which is ironic because it is actually you who are amplifying Bangla's mediocrity by repeatedly stressing that they are much worse than India so why pick on them (not that he is picking on them).

Ok fine. I dont think it was something that was very classy. It smacked of a bit of arrogance and cockyness. The same thing we criticise the Australian team for. Its not about what he said, which player in the team said it, what the characteristic of that player are ... etc. The No.1 team should be able to beat a minnow with humilty and grace.

I have nothing further to add to what I've already said. Any more discussion on this, I'd be going round and round in circles regurgitating the same reasons without adding anything new. I still standby everything I have said.

A bit of arrogance is good. Not as much as the Aussies, but a bit. No relationship ever is balanced. No relationship ever is politically correct. And it's especially so in a competition. If Sehwag had not said this if he had been more politically correct, some Bangladeshi at some point would have hinted at how they beat us in the WC and how they have better nerves than us. It just has to happen. Viru just drew the line that someone had to draw. Even when two wild animals fight, they roar to show their strengths to each other. It's always necessary to show the opposition their place. Last time we visited Bangladesh, Shastri was the team manager. When he was asked about how India would deal with Bangladesh, he said "We will show no mercy, we will take no prisoner." Bangladeshis went crazy. It's the same story repeating. Bangladeshis were not exactly politically correct after they beat us in 2007. They were not exactly gracious in victory and we dont have to be.

Call it as he says it' date=' well, he might as well called them shyt since thats what his original comments implied anyway. Since he only speaks his mind, why not, why the big deal about the choice of words[/quote'] Most news paper editors would need to put a **** and most Tv channels would need to go 'beep'.

it is not actually that big of a deal. he didn't curse them or say really mean things about them. he just said they can't take 20 wickets, which is very mild. I agree with vvs above, it is the media and people like us who are beating this thing to death.

Whats this calls it as he sees it crap ... How is that different from Hayden calling Bhajji an obnoxious weed? Im sure Hayden was just calling it as he saw it. Everyone jumped up and down about that.
agreed, we are living in a society here. if everyone in the world starts 'calling things as they see it' - or whatever bullshit people try to disguise outright obnoxious behaviour under - this world will turn into an effin henhouse. Viru should learn when to shut up. he should have just replied 'no' when asked if bangbros can take 20 wickets and not continued with 'they are an ordinary side'.
