Wednesday 3rd February 2010 Tait: Everyone tampers with ball He has never seen it for himself but Aussie pacer Shaun Tait says there is no denying that all teams indulge in ball tampering. Backing Shahid Afridi's claim that all teams tamper with the ball, Tait said though he is yet to see it himself, there is little doubt that such cheating tactics are not new in international cricket. "All teams tamper with ball" "It probably goes on, but I have never seen it with my own eyes," Tait was quoted as saying by 'The Herald Sun'. "I am sure there could be players who do it, but not that I have seen. I have never engaged in biting the ball,' he said. Afridi, a former teammate of Tait in a state side, was banned for two Twenty20 games after being caught biting the ball during a one-dayer against Australia in Perth. Former wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist felt such offences need to be dealt with strictly to set an example for others. "I think what we saw on Sunday night in Perth and also in the England and South Africa series is that this is an issue that must be dealt with sooner rather than later," Gilchrist said. "There is simply too much weight of evidence that it's occurring. I have no doubts that anyone caught should face extremely serious ramifications and punishment. "It's up to the players to make the call on this one and say this simply cannot be tolerated," he added.

IN03_IMRAN_KHAN_29311f.jpgAll teams tamper with ball: Imran, Rameez Shahid Afridi is not the only one who thinks that all teams tamper with the ball. Pakistan’s World Cup winning former captain Imran Khan and another ex-skipper Rameez Raja feel the same. Afridi, who has been banned for two Twenty20 matches for tampering with the ball in a one-dayer against Australia in Perth, has claimed that all teams try such tactics to exploit the conditions to their advantage. Backing Afridi’s claim, Imran said only the sub-continental teams are punished for the offence. “It is nothing new, when we were playing and developed reverse swing we were accused of being cheats and tampering with the ball, but when the English and other bowlers did it became an art,” he said. However, both Imran and Rameez didn’t condone Afridi’s behaviour in gnawing into the ball. Imran insisted he never tampered with the ball in his playing days as other teams did. “There have been several recorded incidents of teams trying to change condition of the ball through various methods,” he claimed. Rameez also insisted that ball tampering was done by most of the teams. “It is nothing new but what Afridi did is totally unacceptable. He was not playing in a club match it was an international match in front of many cameras and he should have avoided this moment of madness,” he said. “Having the will and desire to win is one thing but doing something like what he did is another thing it embarrassed all of us,” he said. He said Afridi had spoilt his own image by his actions. “You certainly don’t want a captain who loses his cool this way although he has shown all the qualities of making our team fight,” he said. Rameez also called on the Pakistan Cricket Board to set up an inquiry committee to find out why Afridi did what he did. “It is not a small matter and needs to be looked into as it should never have happened,” he added.

Does that mean it's OK to tamper with the ball in a club match or where there are no cameras? Pathetic defence by Imran there. Also if these pakis are now saying every team does ball tampering, why were Inzi and Co jumping up and down during that infamous Oval test?

Imran, you idiot.... shining the ball is not tampering and you pakis are the only ones do tampering consistently. Being a great of pakistani cricket, you should be condemning this incident instead of shamefully giving pathetic excuses like this. Shame on you!

as someone said in another thread... if pakistanis are so cool about ball-tampering and just want to get back to business as soon as possible, then why did they make so much noise about their national pride being at stake when they were accused of cheating/ball-tampering in england under inzi's captaincy. Why didnt they just say - see first we didnt tamper with the ball and second, its not a big deal even if anyone did at that time. Whys did inzi make such a big scene there?

I remember this. I also remember him warning Sreesanth that he will be taken to task in Australia after he had a run-in with Symo that year (we all remember it). I also remember Shoaib trying to poke his nose by saying that Tait would make us jump around with his pace and that Indians are scared of pace. Moral of the story - I don't even remember Tait playing against us ::fail:
