Rajan Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I am extremely confident about CSK's chances this time. the batting is too good.thats important. last year we goofed up in the 2nd 10 overs many times and lost the plot. we should bowl first and chase down all scores........ we can! (dinakkar, i too have the CSK Vs BRC problem, not with wife but with close friends; living in bangalore, supporting CSK is almost like supporting Pakistan against India for Bangaloreans!!!)

Am thoroughly delited with Kemp's bowling display against KKR yesterday. What do you guys make of Raina being named captain in Dhon's absence?

The Superkings have seen worse periods before and came up trumps Dhoni was tuktuk last IPL and we still made it No.2 in the league I am sure Haydos would have declined captaincy and best man to take up the mantle is Raina Yes, its a big blow but Superkings will come back stronger like they have done numerous times in the past I am happy that its only 10 days and 3 odd matches he will miss, they have done well by resting him. He is much more important as an Indian captain

They are far too dependant on Hayden and Dhoni in the batting department and on Murali to apply the choke on the batsmen in the bowling department. However there is some hope with Ashwin coming in this season. He has rarely allowed batsmen to cream him and has been tight. But this strategy of bowling two spinners will only work on the slower tracks. Not on the faster, free scoring ones. I also like how Balaji has come back. If he can keep doing what he has been doing, then Chennai would be better balanced as far as their bowling is concerned. And I am finally happy that Badri has got a steady spot at No.4 - as Harsha said. He is the right man for the spot.

Rajan Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I was surprised when i read that Raina has been appointed Captain. ideally i would have been happy if Stephen Fleming stepped up/taken up the captaincy for the 10 days and lead the team. he is a very shrewd tactician.Badri is also an experienced captain for TN in Ranji, led south in duleep some time back... not sure Raina would be able to handle it. on the positive side, if this promotion makes him more responsible and ensures he stays on the crease for 15 overs, he would make sure the team is safe!

Stephen Fleming has always been a favourite of mine & I value his captaining skills very highly. However, if he did step up to lead the side as you suggest, it would send a message to the team that management do not trust them to cope on their own, under the lead of another team member. This would hurt team morale (which must be pretty high on the back of the win, despite Dhoni being ruled out). Better to give the reigns to a permanent team member. I'm not completely comfortable with Raina in the role of Captain, but I'm sure there are reasons for his appointment, even if they are not clear to us at the moment. May he thrive under the pressure of added responsibility.

I think this is a good move.[/quote'] Greg Chappell had mentioned Dinesh Karthik as a potential captain. he apprecaited Karthik's attitude, his awareness of the team situation while batting( a huge surprise/shock for me) after his performance in a 20-20 Vs SA at SA... i dont remember Raina getting "captaincy material" certification from Greg.
