What a champion effort by Laxman, Ishant (batting and bowling on a bad leg), Ojha and others not to mention the brave bowling by Zaheer. Ideally you don't want the test match to come down to needing 70 runs on a fifth day pitch with two wickets left (we still made too many mistakes on the field) but when it counted, this team really really showed it's heart and determination. Laxman is supreme.

Is there any doubt anymore that we are undisputed No. 1 in test cricket My first thread on this very special occasion. Mods - Please dont delete or merge With this victory I think team India has answered and silenced all the critics and nay sayers who, from the second we became No. 1 in test cricket, have made it their habit to doubt India's top position and undermine our team at every opportunity. One of the major charge against us was that we did not have the intent to win for the issue and our ability to win from any position. I believe this test has has proven beyond doubt that we are a champion team who looked to win throughout the game. Even during the 1st innings, we were not thinking of just going past Australia's first innings score,we were actually trying to go for a big lead. The fact that we folded up short of Australia's first innings score doesnt matter. We showed the intent which is more important. And in the second innings - throughout our batsmen were trying to score runs. We never went into a shell. We were positive. Everyone pulled their weight. Inspite of the several injuries and umpiring blunders, we went on to win the match. There is no doubt in my mind that we are No. 1. If there are still some doubters even after this match - Ian Chappel, Sanjay Manjrekar, Mike Atherton and the like can go hang themselves :finger:

i am going to hold off judgement till we can win a test series in australia and south africa. so yeah there are still doubts. not a day goes by where there is not an article about how india are the most disputed no 1 in the history of the game, unlike the west indies of the 70's or 80's where they demolished each and every team home or away or the aussies who did the same in late 90's early 2000's. we are yet to reach that kind of dominance.

some of india's best performances in this decade have come away from home. won a series in england, smashed australia at perth and sydney (should have won that series) and gave south africa's it's heaviest defeat on it's home soil at a ground like jo'burg, where they don't lose. but at the end of the day, they need to close out these series with wins. india played brilliantly on their last tour of SA and but for a bad session or two, they could have had a draw at durban and a win at cape town. this 'could have' 'should have' counts for nothing. india is improving and the team we have now is far better than those teams. so this winter in SA, next summer in England will be india's chance to set things right. i think they will. this is our time.

that wasnt the case on our last tour to SA. but anyway, the BCCI do this because indian players dont think much about pre-match preparation. dhoni thinks it's pointless. i dont think we can use a lack of practice games as an excuse anymore.

It will take a herculean effort for ANY team to come close to winning there. A test series win in Australia is not so far-fetched, though pretty hard as well. In fact over the last decade, we have gone from being walloped 3-0 in 1999 to competing very well in 2003 and 2008. We could potentially win there, but we are running out of time to do it, with the current all-star middle order all in the wrong side of 35.
