Last July, the all-rounder did not find his name among the probables for the Champions Trophy. This time he has not figured in the list for the World Twenty20 that begins in the West Indies on April 30. Pathan isn’t fully fit now. But the medical opinion is that he will be ready in about 20 days. The World Twenty20 is two months away before which Pathan will get the opportunity to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). “I should be match-fit in two to two-and-a-half weeks. I have a back strain that first troubled me after the Duleep Trophy final,” Pathan said on Monday. “I went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for my rehabilitation and on February 15 the physio stated that I should be fit in four to six weeks. As I was at the NCA, I believe that the physio would have communicated my fitness status to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). I don’t believe there is a communication problem between me and the BCCI,” Pathan added. Asked how disappointing it was not to be considered among the probables, Pathan said: “It does feel bad. But I don’t want to talk too much about it as my words maybe misunderstood or taken out of context. I am going to concentrate on playing at my best. Cricket is my life but I need to understand that this (injuries) is also part and parcel of the game. The IPL is a great opportunity for me to perform well. I may miss one or two IPL matches but I should be fully fit for the rest for Kings XI Punjab.” Looking ahead to the 2011 World Cup in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in early 2011, Pathan said: It is still a long way away. I am looking forward to be part of the World Cup team. Injuries have let me down but hopefully I should be at my peak during the IPL.”

I thought his injury was serious .. if he will be fit in a couple of weeks and is playing in IPL then he should also have been selected in the 30 probables for sure .. it is unfair if he is left out without valid reason

i dunno whats the issue here... IP is far far better than the existing bench of bowlers . He was the MOM in WCT20 , MOM is CB series and now he is not even in best 30 players in India... its ridiculous.

IP is given a raw deal here by selectors. He definitely deserves to be in 30 members squad and his performance could've been accessed in IPL before selecting final squad.

I say we blame it on Cheeka B-> I suspect fitness must be the issue here, then again I don't think all on the 30 list are fit anyways.

I don't know. I think that rule applies only to the final 15 and not the 30 probables, but like I say. don't know for sure.

that was for Oz tour.that wasnt an ICC tournament.BCCI wasnt under any obligation to announce 30 probables in first place.so it could tinker with it.i dont think u can that in ICC tournaments

Somebody in the selection panel or the team management does not like Irfan. There's no other explanation for his continuous omission, even from the list of 30 probables. Either the team management thinks Irfan does not fit in well within the team dynamics or, a selector or a group of selectors of the Chairman himself think he isnt good enough to play for India. And its not as though the rest of our pacers are winning Olympic Golds either. Just look at someone like Sreesanth, he now has the ignominy of being the most expensive regular bowler in the history of the sport! I think Irfan is erring by playing silent on this issue. Sometimes, you need to light a fire to catch people's attention. He needs to come out and give a hard-hitting interview, asking tough question about continuous omission and not be afraid to name names. Many people have done that. Ganguly orchestrated a full-fledged media campaign that included a one-on-one with the then BCCI Chairman Pawar to win his place back. Sometime back, Badrinath had a minor media outburst, wondering aloud why he's being continuously omitted, despite being the best FC performer by miles. Irfan should do the same. There's no point playing soft-ball on this issue anymore.

i feel its Dhoni himself.remember how he fought wen Irfan was favoured over RP even though RP was bowling terribly? agree about the second part.he needs to get into media attention n ask question of selectors through media.atleast wen the next time our esteemed pace battery of Sree n co. leak runs,the media will ask questions

I think marris has a point. Irfan Pathan cannot go from being one of the brightest all round talents in the game to somebody who cannot make a list of 20 probables. He is somebody worth investing on - much more than somebody such as Praveen Kumar. Much as Dhoni has come on by leaps and bounds as a keeper and even as a batsman, he still has a long way to go as far as team selection and balancing is concerned - as selecting Saha in the playing XI in the first Test against South Africa showed. Irfan also is, in my opinion, the better cricketer when compared to his big hitting brother.

I remember, during the 2003 WC, Steven Waugh was not in the initial probables list but some sections of the media kept going on with the story that he will make a surprise return to the final squad.

Yeah mate i agree irfan should be vocal about his continuos omission from the National colours,, Thalla sonna correcta than irukum..B->
