He is best known for his achievement in 2006 when he broke the great West Indian batsman, Sir Vivian Richards', world record for the most Test runs in a single calendar year. In November 2006, Yousuf achieved the 10th highest ever figure in ICC's test batting rating. His rating of 933 gave him a personal best of 2nd place in the rankings behind Ricky Ponting and was the 3rd highest ranking of any current player as well as the highest for any batsmen from Asia. Mohammad Yousuf is the third Pakistani batsmen to surpass 6000 runs in test cricket, the others being Javed Miandad and Inzamam-ul-Haq. He has the second highest Test Match centuries amongst Pakistani batsmen, currently on 24 and only 1 behind Inzamam-ul-Haq. With his twin hundreds in the Karachi test against West Indies 2006, Mohammad Yousuf became the sixth Pakistani and 30th cricketer in test cricket to hit a century in each innings of a test match. He is the third highest run scorer in One-Day Internationals amongst Pakistani batsmen. His average of 44.50 places second out of all Pakistani batsmen, following only Zaheer Abbas (47.62). His Test average of 54.86 currently puts him in 10th spot for Test batting averages for players with more than 50 appearances. He has scored a century at International level against all Test playing nations, and also on the shores of all test nations. After his 191 at Multan he became the first player in Test history to have been dismissed 3 times in the 190s, with all three innings coming in 2006. Yousuf also equalled Australian great Sir Donald Bradman's record of scoring six centuries in successive Tests - although it took him only four matches compared with Bradman's six. Yousuf hit twelve centuries in 2006, which is a world record for most centuries in a calendar year HE IS ALSO THE CRICKETER OF THE YEAR 2007.

Mohammad Yousuf set to retire Mohammad Yousuf is preparing to retire from all forms of international cricket, a direct result it is believed, of the treatment and punishment the PCB handed out to him in the aftermath of Pakistan's recent Australian tour of which he was captain. Yousuf was handed an indefinite ban as per the recommendations of an inquiry committee set up by the board to investigate why Pakistan lost every single one of the nine international matches in Australia over the turn of the year. Seven of those losses - three in Tests and four in ODIs - came under the leadership of Yousuf. In their findings, the board blamed Yousuf for spreading infighting and indiscipline within the side and banned him for an indefinite period - along with Younis Khan - from all forms of the international game. He was subsequently not included in the central contracts list for this year. Yousuf had taken over the captaincy last year when Younis stepped down following an ODI series loss to New Zealand in Abu Dhabi, at a time he says no one was willing to take the responsibility. Though he hasn't yet specified the reasons behind his decision, it is believed that the PCB's punishment and a lack of support from the board have made his mind up for him. Those close to him say that constant run-ins with the board have diminished his appetite to stay on. "I have decided to quit cricket," Yousuf told the Urdu-language daily Jang. "This is not an emotional decision. I consulted my family, friends and elders before taking it." In the past Yousuf has twice bid farewell to Pakistan cricket, after being upset over his treatment from Pakistan's selectors and management. In 2007, after being overlooked for Pakistan's World Twenty20 squad, he signed up with the ICL in protest. Though he was convinced to come back into the fold by the PCB - and paid handsomely to do so - he ultimately joined the league again in 2008. Both times he was barred from playing for Pakistan. Underlining his decision each time was a strained relationship with the then captain Shoaib Malik. Yousuf publicly accused Malik of destroying his career and though he returned to the national team as Malik was deposed as captain, the pair have been involved in a public slanging match again after the Australian tour. Yousuf is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday in Karachi to make the decision official and is expected to outline the reasons for his retirement. If it is the final goodbye - and his current mood, say friends, indicates that he is serious - then Pakistan will lose the services of their most accomplished batsman of the decade alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq. He has over seven thousand Test runs from 88 Tests at 53.07, the highest for any Pakistani batsman. He has 39 international hundreds, including 24 in Tests alone. are u from pakistan...? if so can u tell me what happened to saqlain mushtaq.... and why he disappeared so suddenly inspite of being such a top class off spinner.... i still find it a mystery... he was the inventor of doosra wasnt he?

Yes me from Pakistan and was a big fan of Saqi, man what a player he was... (may be its off the topic here but) he was really a genious at play, away from international cricket since almost 6-8 years and he is still 33, just imagine he completed 250 ODI wickets in just 6 years of his carrier, 96-01,what if he might have played next 10 years as well and still playing. As for as I know, he got some knee injury in 2002, 03. PCB didn't financed him and he personally went to UK for surgery, it took 6,8 months and meanwhile there were big changes in team and board setup, Shoaib malik replaced him and he was good in bat as well although never equal in bowl but somehow he was doing well that time and so PCB almost forgot Saqi and he also kept on waiting for a call which happened one or two times but they just considered him for 1 match and on the bases of that only they didn't picked him anymore because he couldn’t "perform" well.

Wasim n Waqar, both were doing exceptionally well when they were dropped after WC'03, Saeen Anwar ot century in his last inng n still not selected, Saqlain Mushtaq and Mushtaq Ahmed both could have 10+ years more carrier when they were dropped.
