Mohammed Yousuf quits international cricket over ban

Yes me from Pakistan and was a big fan of Saqi, man what a player he was... (may be its off the topic here but) he was really a genious at play, away from international cricket since almost 6-8 years and he is still 33, just imagine he completed 250 ODI wickets in just 6 years of his carrier, 96-01,what if he might have played next 10 years as well and still playing. As for as I know, he got some knee injury in 2002, 03. PCB didn't financed him and he personally went to UK for surgery, it took 6,8 months and meanwhile there were big changes in team and board setup, Shoaib malik replaced him and he was good in bat as well although never equal in bowl but somehow he was doing well that time and so PCB almost forgot Saqi and he also kept on waiting for a call which happened one or two times but they just considered him for 1 match and on the bases of that only they didn't picked him anymore because he couldn’t "perform" well.

That is such a sad story. He was a very good bowler and was much less controversial than his fellow Pakistani players. If he knew how to chew a call or how to dance on a pitch, he may have survived for years in spite of *****y performances. His mistake is that he wanted to perform.

Look at this 5,5,5,5 wickets in 4 consecutive inngs vs India in India, its some achievement, he used to bowl 46,48th n 50th over in ODI with success, most of the time in ODI carrier his avg was under 20... plus most importantly he was a very very nice character personality as you mentioned.

"I think Yousuf is taking an emotional decision, but I think he must reconsider his decision because he still has a lot to give to Pakistan cricket," Afridi said, when he asked for his reaction on Yousuf's decision to retire on Monday. "Yousuf, I think has been affected by the recent happenings and is upset with the ban on him, but he is a senior player and he must handle the situation. He must not take an emotional decision," Afridi said. Afridi, who has been named captain for the Twenty20 World Cup, said that Yousuf still had a lot to give to the team particularly in Test cricket. "We have a lot of Test matches coming up in next 10 to 12 months and we need his experience against the top teams like Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand," he said. But former captains Inzamam-ul-Haq and Moin Khan and the national team coach Waqar Younis all refused to comment on Yousuf's impending retirement. "What can I say at this stage when he has not retired as yet. It would be premature to say anything. Let us wait and see what happens," Inzamam said. Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ejaz Butt said if Yousuf decides to retire it would be his own decision and the board would make no comments at this stage. "I don't think he has announced his retirement as yet," Butt remarked.

Lol, the dude deserves an academy award for acting. There's obviously a LOT of bad blood b/w Yousuf and Afridi. Remember Yousuf's comment before/during the test series in Australia, when asked about the prospect of Afridi playing the test series because he was already in Australia playing the KFC T20? He said something along the lines 'Well, I dont think that's a possibility. We dont even if Afridi wants to play test cricket, one day he retires from the format, next day he is available'. And get a load of this - Shahid Afridi who tampered the ball and brought shame to the entire nation of Pakistan gets a paltry fine, while Yousuf and Younis get indefinite bans for offences that are not even known? You take this piece of news and tie it with the fact that Afridi had a closed-door meeting with PCB officials just days before the bans/fines were imposed and its clear as daylight that he has been actively campaigning for the marginalization of the Yousuf/Younis duo. Else, which board would ban their only batsmen who average over 50 in test cricket? This Afridi is a sly, shady dude who will go any extent to achieve his dream of Pakistani captaincy.

It is his own decision. But certainly I felt he had at least three years of cricket left in him and we wanted him to play for Pakistan soon,” Khan said.
