zen Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 This topic may have been covered in a variety of threads but to put everything together for those who want to suggest a way forward for Ind to get in to the semis. The problems, from the top of my head: - Negative NRR - S8 game against WI at Barbados (which is hosting the final as well) - S8 game against SL at St Lucia (which is probably a slower surface, which probably suits SL more) - Known weakness against well directed short pitched bowling - Lack of quality and depth in the bowling attack - Average fielding standard The road to semis: Win the remaining two games handsomely .... and probably hope that Aus wins all its games (or at least the one against SL at Barbados) Threats: - Playing WI quicks at Barbados - Playing SL slow bowlers and well-rounded bowling attack at St Lucia, along with addressing some in form SL batsmen Opportunities: - Still two games remaining - Aus playing SL at Barbados Weaknesses: - See the problems list for some of them - Inability to come up with right strategy and tactics - Inability to select the right combination - To many guys who are good enough to bat at 5 and 6 occupying the 3-5 batting slots Strengths: - Talent - Perceived match winners - Experienced players Guys who done well so far in at least one game against SA and Aus: - Batting: Raina, Rohit - Bowling: Bhajji, Nehra Guys who haven't impressed so far: - Batting: almost every other batsmen - Bowling: Zak, Jadeja to list two Game plan (it's simple): - Treat every game as a KO game (which is what it is from now on) - Select the guys in form - When bowling, look to pick up wkts - Develop a strategy to counter short-pitched stuff, rotate the strike to unsettle the bowlers. For the next two games, this is how they need to go about: For the Barbados game: - Vijay - Karthik (good record against WI and in WI, iirc) - Gambhir - Raina - Rohit - Dhoni - Yuvi - Bhajji - Vinay - Nehra - Yadav For the St Lucia game: If required bring in YP as a bits and pieces player option in place of one of the top 7, if anyone of them is still struggling. If the surface at St Lucia is slow, his bowling could be useful, so can be his batting against SL spinners All the best India! :isalute:
cндябеяs Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 Australia have to win against srilanka and we have to win both games and we are through:pray:
f2000560 Posted May 8, 2010 Posted May 8, 2010 hum honge kameyaaab hum hoonge kameyaab humhonge kameyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaab ek diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin!!!
zen Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Against WI, we are playing the same side that played Aus :nervous:
zen Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Appears as if Jadeja with his performances and Dhoni with his tactics will insure once again that Ind gets KO :P In the last WC, Dhoni promoted Jadeja, who messed up the RR. This time he should have been dropped after the game against Aus but Dhoni persisted with him. He had already dropped a sitter so far (and still there are a lot of overs remaining in the game for him to mess up more) In the meantime, Ind is also weathering the Gayle storm
zen Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 100 up for WI, with quite a few balls remaining .... WI booties are shaking a lot
StriKe Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 India doesn't fit to be in semis with this crappy bowling except nehra and bhaji
zen Posted May 9, 2010 Author Posted May 9, 2010 Gayle departs after 98. He made the most of buffet bowling by Ind part-timers (Dhoni and Gary  ) Nehra and Bhajji did well to not allow WI to get close to 200. These are good batting conditions and with a so-called strong batting line up, Ind should back themselves to get 170 If not then they would only have themselves to blame for playing poor cricket, esp with respect to strategy, tactics and team selection.
Roshanrocks Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Ind's way forward is home :P no.........one practise, time pass match and then a carribean cruise, then beach n babes, and THEN home  we are waiting for you...come come.... :bb:
satyam1729 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 The Way Forward for Ind: the road to semis - INDIA needs to beat SL by 20 runs or chase the total in 16 to 17 overs
zubinpepsi Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 just like our rockstars,we fans never learn.. :cantstop:
hitman1980 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Ok.. I calculated .. if we beat SL by 30 runs (if we score 170) our run rate will be -0.61 and SL runrate will be -0.90 .. So I would say we better chase .. cos the difference is not much .. Its 20 overs so 30-40 runs make big difference in RR
satishg Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 lol i dont know how you guys seem to put so much hope on this team even after repeatedly performing below par. So if India wins this way and makes it to the semis wont it make us a fluke team as well or does that apply only to Pakistan?! :winky:
satyam1729 Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Ok.. I calculated .. if we beat SL by 30 runs (if we score 170) our run rate will be -0.61 and SL runrate will be -0.56 .. So I would say we better chase .. cos the difference is not much .. Its 20 overs so 30-40 runs make big difference in RR SL run rate is already -0.61 . By losing to India their run rate will come down
