VIV RICHARDS offers help to Indian

batsmen West Indies great Viv Richards has offered to work as India's batting consultant, saying he can help the batsmen sort out their perennial weakness against short-pitch bowling. "I could be a good consultant where batsmanship is concerned and especially where you have such aggressive fast bowling, I can be a little help at some point to teams," said the Caribbean great, considered one of the most aggressive batsmen the game has ever seen. "I'm available, maybe they (India) will call me sometime to know how to handle such aggression," the former West Indies captain told 'Times Now'. For the second successive time in the Twenty20 World Cup, Indian batsmen's technical frailties against short-pitched stuff were thoroughly exposed and the side crashed out of the event without winning a single Super Eight match. Both Australian and English bowlers exploited this particular chink in India's armour and Richards felt all Dhoni and his teammates needed some thorough practice against short-pitched bowling. "The Australians did put the wind up India that particular day. I don't think the Indian batsmen are accustomed to steep bounce. When the ball is bouncing that high, it needs some courage to tackle," Richards said. "What India can learn from the past is to get some practice against the real aggressive stuff," said the West Indian. Richards did not subscribe to the view that Indian Premier League (IPL) was to be blamed for the team's dismal show in the Caribbeans. "India came into the tournament with the most T20 matches, taking in the IPL factor. I don't think it's an excuse in any way. I was in South Africa in 2007 where they won the first T20 tournament and they played magnificently," Richards said. "Sometimes the ball is in your court sometimes it's not. Problem is temperamental and may be against spin problem is that there is no problem.we are taking t20 wc loss to seriously than it is.we are still no 1 team in test cricket which is real form of cricket . t20 is just hit and miss cricket and nobody cares about it.even australia were knocked out in first round last. i think viv richards is going mad by age.he wants to be consultant of probably one the best batting line up of all time.:finger:

Dude.. this batting line up is not one of the best of all time lol. That has Tendulkar, Dravid, Laxman, Veeru et al. :winky: In the current T20 line up Gambhir is the only decent Test match player.

why go so far when we have gold right in our home? arun lal, ravi and siva were saying a lot of stuff in the commentary box about how to play bouncers... maybe they can help our batsmen... even harsha. harsha sounded like he can toy with the short stuff from garner and holding even if was woken up at 2 in the night and asked to come to the nets. i seriously want arun lal and harsha to be our batting consultants

Mohinder is the best alongwith Kapil dev when it comes to "attacking" short stuffs.

If India plays well in world T20.. IPL will be even bigger. It puts a dampener. I personally don't think there is a huge difference in quality between IPL and World T20. Heck T20 itself is a low quality format that you find on streets mainly. It is a matter of having couple of good players in form. In other formats out of form players can work their way through and find some form. But in T20 there is no time to find form. India had far too many out of form players, untested players. Raina and Vijay were the only two in form going from IPL. Vijay failed. Raina did well. Rest of them failed as expected. When they pick team for future, pick atleast 5 inform players.

Viv must be out of money and needs a job.... and considering India is the golden goose at the moment in cricket...this will be perfect. No amt of training or advice from any specialist can help Indian batsmen....they need to sort this out themselves

I remember watching an over from Lillee to Viv on you tube. Lillee worked on Viv with bouncers and then picked up his wkt. That was probably early on in Viv's career MOh-BNyAM_Q A positive of having Viv as batting consultant would be that guys like Tendulkar, Sehwag, etc will be pretty pumped up

This reminds me of- Major KLPD. He more than eagerly offered to, in his case, coach the Indian cricket team after Greg Chappell's departure. Players wanted him, media wanted him, fans wanted him, the board too seemed to have given him an unofficial green signal. But what do they do? They go in for a Manager in Shri Lalchand Rajput. Hope they don't respect another legend.

We have active batting legends like SRT and Dravid who can give enough batting tips to those who need them. Like others have said we have Mohinder and Sunny from the past. A guy like Viv can definitely help, but batting wise we have quite a few home grown greats as well.
