The Outsider Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 I wouldnt agree to that. Vinay seems a much superior bowler than him. The likes of you wouldnt have wanted someone like Asif in the team That's not a fair call. I am no pace fanatic and some of my favorite bowlers have been the likes of Kapil, McGrath, and Pollock. None of whom, were express pace for any significant periods of their career. However, Vinay Kumar is just utter garbage. He has nothing to offer as a bowler, plain and simple. I have more faith in Irfan Pathan than Vinay. He lacks pace, swing, any appreciable seam movement, bounce. What does he offer as a bowler?
asterix Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Yadav will do well in the long run. The halftracker tundlers like Dinda, VK etc. have no future...
Karan114 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 To his credit I liked how he hurried the Zimbabwean batsmen in his first couple of spells. Especially Greg Lamb with disconcerting inward movement and good pace. Yeah, I saw those deliveries, were definitely hurrying the Zim batsmen up. Not the greatest debut performance but there is definitely something to work with there, unlike some of the other trundlers.

Point is, Umesh should have taken at least a five fer today as per the pace fanatics. How many wickets did he take? A big fat zero. Will the speed fanatics come and explain to how that happened? He was a specialist death bowler, no? What was his performance there? Where did those fast and furious yorkers disappear? How come the captain didn't have enough faith in him to let him complete his quota of overs, that too against Zimbabwe? My intention is not to deride an inexperienced seamer here, who is clearly the brightest prospect of the 3 who played today. My point is just to show a bit of mirror to forummers who think that pace is be all and end all, and we should bin bowlers like Irfan, Sree or Ishant just because they've lost pace! I'm asking those forummers to come and tell me how Umesh failed to take a single wicket with that pace today.

Pace alone is the not everything but it sure does help if a bowler mixes it up with his other bowling skills. The likes of McGrath were not express but they still had good pace compared to Indian standards. He would be up there in the early 140's or high 130's. Even Yadav is not express pace either, that would be someone like Tait or Shoaib Akhtar or Brett Lee. The rest of the bowlers fall below the express pace category, dont you think but you are correct in that pace alone is just cannon fodder on placid LOI pitches. Even the speedster, Shoiab Akhtar mentioned that he is half the bowler without his inswinging delivery.
hari504504 Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 My point is just to show a bit of mirror to forummers who think that pace is be all and end all' date=' and we should bin bowlers like Irfan, [b']Sree or Ishant just because they've lost pace! just to be picky... Sreesanth didn't fall out of favour because he lost his pace..infact among that trio you mentioned, he is the only one who hits 140s regularly, he won is our last test match vs Srilanka on that flat deck single handedly.. the issue with him is on-pitch behaviour , which I personally don't really think is that big an issue - He'll learn the hard way when match referees dock 50-80% of his match fees each time.
Andy Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Yadav will do well in the long run. The halftracker tundlers like Dinda' date= VK etc. have no future... I dont think he is a trundler. He is a skiddy bowler. Who was the peak among our pacers today. He has variations and a Good Yorker unlike Vinay. And today by a fair distance he looked beter than Yadav.
asterix Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 We need a pace bowler. Umesh fits the bill and will learn fast. Occasional failures on flat tracks will ofcourse give chance to gleeful opportunist haters to push forward the case for eternal failures like 'Pie' Pathan etc... I'm sure Yadav will shut the critics pretty soon.. The fact is even Senior Indian bowlers will fail to defend totals less than 300 now a days. That's why Indian team depends on batsmen to score over 300 to give a chance to bowlers to defend the total. The middle over batting was pathetic today when Nohit and Bhikhari Jadeja were moving on like the Jhumri Tillaiyya passenger train at 4.5 runs an over..

Sreesanth's problem isn't just behavior. He simply can't contain. He is possibly one of the most expensive bowlers. He is a must in tests, but in ODIs don't think so.
The Outsider Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 The middle over batting was pathetic today when Nohit and Bhikhari Jadeja were moving on like the Jhumri Tillaiyya passenger train at 4.5 runs an over.. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical: Takes creativity to blame the last two recognized batsmen who took the score from 128/4 in 30 overs to 285 in 50 overs scoring 157 runs in 20 overs at a RR of almost 8. And no, I don't consider lappebaaj Pathan as a batsman.

But a must in Test matches, as you say.

And no, I don't consider lappebaaj Pathan as a batsman. Yes they took the score to 285 but at a very slow rate. The scoring rate increased during the powerplay overs but that was not enough as the overall scoring rate was slow. Professor, even Senior Indian bowlers would struggle to defend a score of 285 on this wicket.. In the middle overs Nohit and Bhikhari even scored at the rate of 3.5 runs an over. I don't know if you followed the match or not.
King Tendulkar Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 Yadav looked ok. Not sure about speeds as no speed guns but lookes reasonably pacey. But was as accurate as anyone, not spraying it around.

I don't know if you followed the match or not. I did not watch India's batting. But to me taking the score from 128/4 in 30 overs to 285 in 50 overs is a run rate of 8 RPO in the last 20 overs, which is superb by any parameter. Heck, that's a decent score even in T20. Once you factor in that they were the last recognized batting pair at the crease, it becomes beyond criticism.

I don't know if you followed the match or not. And others were scoring at a strike rate in excess of 200 right ? Dude, if you cannot be grateful to RS and Jadeja's batting efforts than at least don't stoop any lower by actually thrashing the 2 highest run scorers of the Indian innings. India managed to hit 115 runs in the last 11 overs and 285 is more than a decent target. If you're bowlers are sh!t, even a target of 400 looks minuscule. Remember rajkot ? Do you really think that Yusuf could have saved India's **** had Jadeja and RS fallen in a bid to increase our RR ? He is a **** batsman and I bet he would never be able to hit as many runs as bhajji has in his ODI career. He is total waste of a space in anything more than 20 overs cricket :wall:
mastana Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 ^^ Guys please stay on topic. This thread is about Umesh Yadav. On topic(i hardly go offtopic :hehe:) :- Umesh bowled well for first seven overs. And it was his first match. Don't forget he started playing cricket 2 years ago.

Temujin Khaghan Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Umesh is just 22 years old. i wish he will have a great career and the BCCI dont ruin him by making him bowl on the funeral grounds in india. they should send him to play at the county level atleast for 1 season. it will help him become a better bowler.
