If he can increase his pace actually and even go 135+ with good swing and control then I would surely welcome him with open arms. Otherwise let the new kids get chances and especially Umesh Yadav untill the board reduces Umesh yadav to another 120+ trundler and then another new name.

someone Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 IPL is a domestic T20 tournament not an International. IPL/T20 is not a benchmark for selecting ODI/Test players. GG/UV were lamabasted for their selection to play in a T20 tournament. Nobody lamabasted GG selection for India's test team. God save us if we are now going to start selecting players for our test/ODI teams based on IPL/T20 performances. Look, what you said is true but again there is not a lot of difference in our bowlers like IP, Sree, IS in domestic cricket, all have performed same so now the question for them is how they perform in IPL to differentiate between the in form and out form. And I am only taking about T20 selection about Irfan. Regarding other formats, Irfan has to probably bowl much better and show how he differentiates and why he should be selected b4 the likes of Is, Sree. Remember none of IS, Sree, Irfan are in the indian mix but rather the bowlers who have differentiated themselves using the opportunity named IPL. You really have to think as a selector, there really is not a lot of difference in our bowlers but in IP case, as I mentioned tons of times there are definitely 2 better left arm bowlers so why select another and make our attack one-dimensional. Both are different players, one is a spinner who fights with the likes of ojha while another a left arm bowler who fights for his place against AN, ZK. And please do not use hindsight and a player do not become useless cuz of 2 bad matches. Jadeja was the best bowler at least in the last 6 months and that itself deserves a place in our t20 squad whereas your pathan was just decent like every other first class bowler

When we won at Trent Bridge he was excellent. Got KP with a real jaffa in the 2nd inning. I was there :D

We can have a brand new team with 11 untried players for all I care. It is the tests where we need competent and talented second and thirs seamers. Who will be that this year in SA or next year in England? Have you guys thought about that? If you want to discuss Irfan's T 20 chances, there is another thread. Please leave it for tests.

This crap of I can either bowl fast or take wickets is not a smart statement. In the past he has bowled well and a lot quicker than what he is bowling at the moment.

Ya, and then going by the way Sree, RPS and even Irfans careers have panned out there will come a time after that first drop that they regain their form- then comes the brief comeback into the team. Before they lose it and are dropped again. (Zaheer bucked that trend by actually maintaining that form in his 2nd spell in the team) Then repeat cycle.

If not then he will be out after one series thats for sure.

"I came into international cricket at a pretty early age. I started playing at 19 and am still only 25. Time is with me and I have no doubt that I will make a comeback into the team soon," Irfan told PTI in an interview here on Thursday. Irfan said he was under added pressure once he improved his batting after starting his career as a new ball bowler. But the Baroda player insisted he has confidence in his abilities to make a comeback into the Indian squad. "My role in the team changed and things changed. I started with the new ball, then bowled first change. Besides, I started batting as well. That added to the pressure. I have faith in my abilities and am confident of making a comeback," said the player who played his last ODI in February last year against Sri Lanka in Colombo. "I was hoping to return (to the team) soon. But unfortunately there are not many matches. I will play in the Corporate Trophy which will begin in some days. I will also participate in the state level matches," said Irfan who has not played a Test match since 2008. Irfan failed to find a place in the second string India squad that toured Zimbabwe recently despite having scored 397 runs at an average of nearly 50 and taken 22 wickets, at an average of 18.54 in six Ranji Trophy games while leading Baroda last season.
