Shahid Afridi : What is ur opinion about his captaincy?

  1. 1.

    • You are impressed with his captaincy. He should continue being the captain
    • You are not impressed. Another captain needs to be found ASAP
    • You need to see him for more matches to confirm your opinion.

When Australia heard you were leading Pakistan for the series Ricky Ponting said "We'll sort him out pretty quick." Does that mentally spur you on? Allah has given me two ears: I hear with one and throw it out with the other. Whatever happens on the ground, we will know soon. what mind games?

I've liked his captaincy so far in the T20 series. He was not too aggressive, and not too defensive. I hope he leads pakistan well in the test series against the might Aussies. I like the way he is soo confident and straight-forward when giving interviews! He's returning to test cricket after a long time, so best of luck to him...I hope he does well.

Don't over hype him. He has done nothing spectacular or intelligent yet. Like I said, the highlight of his career as a captain is eating the ball. Therefore, he actually rates poorly. I dont have much doubt that when needed, he will inspire his team to cheat because he himself believes in cheating. However, he has a few points to his credit as well like the two T20s he has won. In tests, Afridi will be the odd man out. He never liked the format and publicly admitted it. He tried to retire from the format once as well. In biggest joke is that he hasnt even played a test in the last four years and he has been made captain. Only in Pakistan.

Haven't really seen match of his captaincy, but this test series will give us a good indication of how good he is. Personally, I doubt he will be able to lead his side without a few mental farts for 5 days.

I don’t think he’s a thinking captain or an master strategist, but here’s what he is - An activist captain. He’s not a great strategist like a Mark Taylor, but neither is he a passive onlooker like Mohammed Azharuddin who simply stood at 2nd slip and chewed his nails as the world changed around him. Afridi feels this uncontrolled urge to always be involved in this game, which has both its good sides and bad sides. He considers himself as a big-brother in the team, powering his team with adrenalin and passion. As much as his wild celebrations on taking a wicket can sometimes look garish, I think its more to rally his troops on the field than a narcissistic outflow of emotions. But weirdly, the world media has somehow bought into this concept that Afridi is a really good captain, even though he has very little to show off in his list of victories. Its not like he’s a 2 time world cup winner like Ponting, nor is the skipper the no.1 test team like Dhoni. But every time Pakistan wins a game, the victory is attributed to his captaincy be default, while the losses are conveniently attributed to his team’s mediocrity.

aggressive in all aspects. I don't think he will succeed in tests though. You need brains to get through 5 days while you don't need a brain to get through 20 overs.

In my opinion I think his captaincy was good today (1st day of 1st test) He made good bowling changes, and smart fielding changes. The Ponting wicket should be fully credited to him. Job well done today (229-9) Even though he was expensive with his own bowling, I really hope he bowls well in the 2nd innings.

the decision to not bowl to the number 11 was pretty gutless by Afriidi. he could have gotten rid of Bollinger himself, and 229 AO at stumps is always a better position than 229/9. If anyone still remembers that classic Sydney test :giggle: they will remember Mike Hussey putting on 100+ for the 10th wicket with peter siddle. i dont expect the same thing to happen this time, but wouldntbe surprised if this pair got another 40-50 runs.

I wonder if Afridi purposefully took bad light... did he protect his batsmen from the early bowler friendly conditions? If only i could go inside his brain... But common sense would say that he should have replaced Asif with himself and procured the last wicket on day 1 itself. I didnt see the whole of the first day so i cannot comment on his captaincy, but he has got good results, 229/9 on day 1 against the Aussies IS a good result. Lets see what happens from here on...

All I can say is wait till the end of the series. This test match is by no way over.... Pakistan's done well so far but there certainly was a decent fight back by the Aussie till about tea. When the Aussies bowl don't expect any less result either. Early summer in England in test matches about 300 runs is quite some runs. As for Afridi, he hasn't done much as a bowler (whatever limited opportunity he had). He brought himself on right after lunch with no success. Let's see how he goes with the bat. If he cannot lead by example he will in no time be binned. I still stand by that.

The Pakistani second innings has begun, lets see the approach of the batsmen....

Nicely done by the retard. His team is in trouble after a few wickets and he comes into the Test Arena and plays in T20 mode. I really, really hope this clown captains as long as possible.
