Gave us Sachin, Kumble, Srinath, Ganguly, Dravid, VVS, Harbhajan, Agarkar etc some of the brightest talents to have played for India Reached the semifinals of the WC with a very weak team Reached the finals of the CT with a very weak team Made India the home tiger Took over during the transition period of Indian cricket and after probably our worst decade in test cricket. Taught us to fight away from home , though we could not win away tests, yet came close on so many occassion only to fluff the chaces due to a very weak bowling (lack of a 3rd seamer)

maniac Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Dhoni Vs Ganguly-Ok lets see Ganguly took over during the Match Fixing crisis.If we all remember this was during the era when Indian team was Sachin +10 players.Wwe all know Azhar was a meek captain and Sachin always had a very bad team when he was captaining. Ganguly took over and transformed Team India into a team of beleivers.During pre-Ganguly era I used to feel India can lose from any situation to the Ganguly era where we fans beleived that Indian team could pull off a win from any situation eg;Aus 2001 series,Natwest Final,Road to world cup final,Series victory in Pakistan.Did we have the same beleif during Azhar's reign or the little reign that Sachin had. I am not saying who is a better leader but definetely Ganguly was the initiator and his legacy is being continued by Dhoni.I rate Ganguly as a bigger match winner than Dhoni on his day because we all know who would end up as a better player.Dhoni is a better utility player than Dada due to his keeping skills but in sheer talent Ganguly is better. I would pick Ganguly because I saw the lousy leadership,politics and controversies of the 90's and Ganguly was the first captain to show a different team India. PS:I am not a bong or Saurav Ganguly in disguise or in no way related to Ganguly.I am just a fan and observer of the Indian cricket team

Dont you know how Ganguly have Ruined Careers of Match winners like VVS and Murali Karthik in ODI team? And Ganguly bettter batsman than Dhoni? Dhoni have won two ICC ODI player of the year awards, Lead India to Number 1 rank in the world. Won every game for us, Plus he is worlds alltime best Odi batsman after SRT, best ever Captain, Best ever chowkidar, Security Guard, Doctor and so on.(This are not my words, you'll see most of this posts after few hours or even minutes i complete this post).

He is arguably the best sipper India has ever had + he is probably the best keeper in India atm. Karthik plain sucks behind the wicket if anyone is thinking about him as a replacement. He is definitely a good batsman hence the average. I can't think of a replacement for Dhoni. Is there anyone who is has the following combination? Great skipper + good keeper + a match winning batsman who can switch gears as needed? yup , hes a bit like Yuvraj on the field ..will pull of some brilliant catches , but also drop a lot of catches ... Patel is much better keeper than Karthik

I do not agree with you in case you talk about his whole Tenure as a captain. If Ganguly was the poorest captain you have seen then am not sure who you'd Refer to as beter In India. May be its a case of Hatred with Passion.

[/quote'] Many times when we won abroad some of his Bowling changes brought up some much needed breakthroughs which lead us to win many times. Sometimes bowling changes, sometimes field placings. Hence i disagree he was a poor captain 'On the field'. He was pretty bad in 2004-2005. why would I hate Ganguly ? :haha: on the contrary am a Ganguly fan , but not his captaincy . May be some reasons similar to Fontaine hating Shreeshant, Best known to him. :D Anyways jokes aside, i was not a fan of Ganguly the batsman but the Skipper.
