It's not about County Cricket (even though it won't hurt). It's about managing the improvement of a bowler. This is isn't quantum physics, it's ****ing abc's. Emphasize fitness Emphasize bowling for a certain format that fits the strength of the bowler. Manage their workload (Ishant shouldn't be playing in ODIs and Tests in the same tour). Emphasize on providing the best bowling coaches and facilities for these bowlers. You would think that a trained primate appointed into the BCCI would be able to eat bananas, throw feces, and help do the above few things. But instead we're stuck with a board that's hostile towards the ECB, pushes the IPL down everyone's throat, can't even appoint a dedicated bowling coach for the NCA etc etc.

Its unfair to ask professional sportsmen, who shelf life is extremely short, to forego rewards that monetary or otherwise and sacrifice for the largers interests of the nation/team. If they do such a thing, like VVS did by foregoing 100s of 1000s dollars to settle for a much lesser lucrative IPL contract so that his team could buy more players, then that’s great. But if they don’t, that should not be held against them. Every individual has the inalienable, indisputable right to look out for themselves. That applies more so for sportsmen, whose career often ends before they touch their mid 30s. That said, if someone like Ishant Sharma is really smart and discerning, he’d probably realize by now that his commercial prospects are directly proportional to his performances in Indian colors. If he takes wicket in the international arena and wins matches for us, his IPL demand will go up, so will hia appearances his commercials. At a very limited level, the team management/board should have some influence on how the younger players, who sometime be a bit misguided, go about their priorities. Ultimatley, its all upto the individual.

How exactly is one individual in the cricket team supposed to get a bowling coach for the NCA, arrange for world class fitness and biometric facilities as well as manage the cricket itinerary so we don't get meaningless series against Sri Lanka again and again on mostly flat decks?

England and Australia have fixed summers and their schedules.They played South Africa recently and will play them again later this year. who else you want them to play , Srilanka is only country which has free schedule and they are playing them I don't see anything wrong with that, it is up to the selectors to be wise and creative to improve bench strength not the board. Nobody stopped them from sending IP/RP singh and co to all India A tours to see how they were doing but this selection committee is joke how can you fault board for that. Fitness is up to individual not up to board Amit mishra /Ohja who according reports frown up to fitness are they not getting same facilities as other Indian team members so why is Mishra getting fatter and Yuvraj who has pot belly now is he not with Indian team and all the facilities. I agree closing down MRF and not having Bowling Coach at NCA are issues.

County cricket is BS .. all oldies, retired and useless cricketers ... It only help fast bowlers cos of the pitches there... I really don't know y everyone is so jealous of IPL .. wth they don't say slip t20 wc, big bash etc... Using IPL word give some publicity to their useless articles ..

And irrespective of which way he or she decides, none of us have the moral authority to question that judgment.

Thats 14 years ago. Judging by your posts you were not even born the last time england won a test series against INDIA. We are No 1 team in world so other countries should be desperate to play in our leagues which produces the best players in the world. Windies players for one should play in India and then maybe they could learn to bat like our galiticos! The fact that corey collymore has been rampant in county cricket taking wickets galore sums up the standard of county cricket which is vastly over rated.

Isn't the logic the other way around ? You go to county, you hone your skills, you improve your overall game after which you will get selected by the franchises. I know thats not how the selection for the IPL franchises was made but still, :dontknow:

You need to hone your skills when you are young' date= not when you are 32 years old and have played nearly 80 test matches. Just tell me which Indian players can be hired by the counties to hone their skills?

Right, so it makes sense for the young ones to improve their game by going for a county stint. Whether they get accepted for one is a different story but the ones that were invited (can't remember the specifics here) but got rejected by the BCCI on the basis of keeping them fit for Champions League/IPL etc are criminal.

Not Rohit, not Raina, not Badri, not Pujara, not Rahane, not Mukund. So? Pace bowlers can't be sent as they're already overworked. Only significant withdrawals were Chawla and Laxman. Can't say they lost too much!

Who cares............its not like you are a completed batsmen when you enter international cricket. You still have to the hard yards in internationals to adapt and get experience. :headshake: Look at badrinath Domestic attack bully...........come playing for india.....international choker. heck even Mark Ramprakash who was rping every bowling attack in county, yet still doesnt get selected.
