suraj Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Food Items I'd recommend in Singapore:- 1. Eggs 2. Tinned Tuna 3. Olive Oil 4. Nuts (walnuts, almonds) 5. Toast 6. Peanut Butter ( I live of this) 7. Cold Cuts (Turkey) 9. Yogurt 10. Parmesan Cheese, Blue Cheese ( loaded with proteins.) 11. Fruits 12. Broccoli 13. For weight gain beer definitely helps With the exception of broccoli and eggs all the above items require no cooking and can easily be picked up off a supermarket shelf. When in doubt make sure these items are at hand. And you should be fine. If you wanna talk more bout workouts I do and the kinda food I eat, gimme a heads up. I'm sure we could brainstorm and discover a few cool tricks to help us in our quest. Cheers :two_thumbs_up: Are you actually recommending beer?? I don't think that is a good idea; it will just lead to gaining a belly and losing youthfulness in face to be replaced by a bloated look

Swing_n_Speed Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Hmm interesting that you recommend peanut butter. I have been advised to give it a miss and eat roasted peanuts instead. Hmmm that's news to me. The other alternative is almond butter. I make it at home from time to time. But that's an acquired taste. Peanut Butter is definitely tastier.
Crookbond Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 Swing_n_Speed, Thanks for the excellent advice. I will keep you posted.
panther Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 drink plenty of milk it burns fat not the milk the calcium.
Lurker Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Related to sugar- any advise on fruit juice. I noticed Yoda advised against them- I am not a fan of concentrated juice and don't have a lot of those but some protein smoothies ( not home made but at restaurants) use conc. juice. Also lately I have been drinking "naked" juices which have a lot of veggies and fruits in them but sugar content can be a little high even though it is all natural and not added sugar or from concentrate. Of course I understand that fresh veggies or fruits are the best but sometimes it is just convienient to buy these juices or smoothies that provide veg/fruits or whey proteins but may contain higher sugar (natural or from concentrate). So is this much sugar bad- even if natural? (e.g. naked juice has 28 g of sugar in a serving) Its good as a 2nd resort. Like you mentioned often its a matter of convinience and sometimes it is easier to just grab a Naked Smoothie. That said I somehow always end up thinking Naked smoothie, or those like it, are for women :(( a serving of it wont be enough for a man, the protein content is often boosted by soy and even the fruits are kinda geared towards women, more anti oxidant kind. Why dont you make smoothie at home? I do that by mixing whey, honey, some blueberries, or throw in some orange or pomegrante juice. you can also add some yogurt for thickness.
Lurker Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Hmm interesting that you recommend peanut butter. I have been advised to give it a miss and eat roasted peanuts instead. Is it because often peanut butter is mixed with some other oil to give it a creamy look? If so you can get the kind where it is 100% roasted peanuts ground into butter.
Tiger-Don Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Yay!!! summers coming up and this thread is perfect!

Lurker I will try starting to make some smoothies at home. Vaise toh for protein I just mix whey protein with water and drink after workout- protein smoothie/naked juice is more for when I don't have access to my protein powder or when eating light lunch and supplementing with naked juice for fruits, veggies, vitamins & antioxidants etc

vvvslaxman Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Can creatine (N.O. Explode for example) cause tendinitis or other injuries? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071115152309AAQCccM I have somewhat recovered from tendinitis .. i came across this piece. I am little wary of continuing with creatine.. I have been working out for last 3 years.. never had any issue until i started taking creatine.. is it a coincidence or is there a connection.
Swing_n_Speed Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Yo fitness afficiandos wassup. So how about we share a few secrets. Like our favorite moves. Or the perfect dietary supplement we swear by? My move of the week is the burpee. I can do 15 a min. Or with Pull up's I can do bout 12. This is just a one minute fitness test. State ur results guys. If you wanna incorporate the burpee into ur workouts, this is what I do. Once a week generally on a weekend after a quick 1.5 mile run, I will do the burpee workout. It works like this, I do 15, then14, then 12 and so on. The idea is to accomplish this is the shortest time possible. At 11 onwards I incorporate the pull up into the workout. So I'll do 11 reps with pull-ups, then 10 without and so on until I have reached 0. http://health-fitness-solutions.blogspot.com/2007/05/prison-workout-total-body-exercise.html [ame= WORKOUT - YouTube[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxrFducMgYQ]Exercise Videos- Jump Burpees - YouTube[/ame] This is my fav weekend workout cos it gets you ripped instantly. Which is always good for a night of weekend partying :winky: And off-course it's not the kinda workout you can do too often. I keep it to just once a week. So guys any fitness tricks u wanna share? Food tips, workouts anything?
suraj Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Great post Swing and speed- this is exactly what is needed for this summer 4 yrs ago Lurker started this amazing journey with the summer of 2008 that has changed fitness lives of many on this forum. Great job Lurker :hatsoff::hatsoff:- you are a cool dude!!! The hardest thing to make a change is motivation and lack of knowledge on what to do & eat etc; I revisited this thread and found amazing tips that can be tailored towards everyone's fitness goals: two_thumbs_up: of course with the internet one can search anywhere but nothing like fellow desis like Lurker, akshay, rahul, yoda, mh3 etc sharing tips and folks like holy, ram, shehzaada, cricketgirl etc providing success stories that really motivate others!!! So come on ppl- let's make summer 2012 a success- new goals and new members joining in so that we see many success stories by the time winter rolls over! If this guy can do it anyone can- http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/06/01/man-loses-370-pounds-the-old-fashioned-way-reclaims-life/ As for tips I used a lot from the ones provided in this thread but also reserached and talked to other fit ppl in the gym; will start adding some new ones that might not be here
vvvslaxman Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 Just got the book [ame=http://www.amazon.com/The-New-Encyclopedia-Modern-Bodybuilding/dp/0684857219]The new encyclopedia of Moedern Bodybuilding[/ame] what an awesome book this is
Lurker Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 So guys any fitness tricks u wanna share? Food tips' date=' workouts anything?[/quote'] Wide grip pulls up supersetting with free hand pushups. I recently felt a little twang in my knee while squatting, since squats are my favorite exercise I decided not to risk it and took time off legs. Just to mix it up started doing wide grip pull ups, as in real wide. So far I can knock off 10 reps then get down and knock off a couple dozen pushups. You can use this as both a warm up or finish-off exercise.
Lurker Posted June 6, 2012 Author Posted June 6, 2012 Just got the book The new encyclopedia of Moedern Bodybuilding what an awesome book this is Thats one of the first books I remember buying in my trip to USA and reading in a shared apartment in IL. Amongst the dark grey cold winter this was one book who made me try a bunch of things in the apartment gym. Good book, some good old school tips there.
Ram Posted June 6, 2012 Posted June 6, 2012 The renewed activity in this thread could not have been timed better. Personally, I got a bit lazy over the winter/spring and my workout routines became more and more sporadic and rare.. But with warmer temperatures, it is definitely easier to get yourself going. I have been running like a mad-man over the last 4-5 weeks, clocking on an average 3-4 miles a day. Also ran my first outdoor mini-marathon (A un-intimidating 5 km run that I finished in a respectable 31 mins). Next target is to compete in this - http://www.philadelphiamarathon.com/races/rothman-institute-8k (Actually registered for this back in 2010, but my knees began playing tricks on me about a week before the race and I chickened out)

It has me asking questions like 'What is cardio..' :cantstop: And how times have changed.. Since then, I really do believe I must have clocked at least 2500-3000 miles on the tread-milll. :proud: And a lot of credit for that should definitely go to you Lurks! Thank you!
