Nobody, not one other member that I can think of has a made a case for being a certainty at this stage for the WC squad.

I wouldn't rate India's chance based on the performance in the tri-series in SL. That side hasn't got its playing combination and batting order right. If you look at the top 6, only 2 (Sehwag and Kohli) are good enough to bat in the top 4 on regular basis and may be Dhoni to an extent. Folks like Karthik, Raina and Yuvi are more like #5-#7 material, who can bat in the top 4 provided they are in very good form. If not then you are asking for trouble by batting some of these guys in the top 4, esp in conditions at Dambulla (or Dumb-ulla) For the WC, Tendulkar and GG will comeback to stabilize the top order. So in a way, we will have other folks batting more or less in correct positions. This is how the batting order ideally should be, if playing 7 specialist batsmen: - Tendulkar - Sehwag - GG - ? (may be someone like Kohli) - Raina - Yuvi - Dhoni On flat tracks, if you want to have someone like Uthappa batting at 7 then others can move a slot up or even have Uthappa at 4. If playing an all-rounder then others can move up a place too.

You cant seriously make this assumption considering this isnt our proper team! Hopefully for the world cup gambhir, tendulkar, zak, habj will return which are 1st team players! and btw this pitch is considerbaly hard considering the low scores which have been on this series! I wouldnt worry that much considering its still a while away! the bright side from this series are sehwag and praveen personally. Im happy some good is coming from this series, and more importantly sehwags hair is coming back :)

With that in mind, there’s high probability that it will turn out to be a high-scoring tournament and as usual, it will be upto our batsmen to bail us out. But with Yuvraj out of form and a huge shadow looming over the no.7 spot, our ability to consistently put-up/chase huge total is in doubt, no matter how power-packed our top order is. And we havent even started talking about fielding.

yuvraj is a class player though, so im not worried at all. he has been batting realy well on this tour of SL, hasn't put up big scores but looks in good touch. he looked terrific in that last match vs SL for his 38 until he got out. all he needs is one confidence boosting innings, and he will be back to being the destroyer we know i am not so sure about the pitches being flat. we wont be playing at rajkot, ahmedabad or gwalior. basically, with gambhir and tendulkar back, india can smash every team they play.

I know they're fringe players, but you're thinking all our key players will be fit and in top form. Its a slight worry when the back up players / future of Indian cricket are so out of touch and so out of sorts after so much international experience

Again, it’s time for all the other youngsters with considerable international exposure, the Karthiks and Kohlis, the Rohit Sharmas, to get themselves in gear mentally. Apart from Gautam Gambhir, no one’s really been consistent from amongst the newer crop. As a result, there’s been an over-dependence on the senior lot — even in Lanka, the game we won was because of Sehwag. From about six to eight months ahead of the 2003 World Cup — and I’m taking that example because we did well in 2003, unlike in 2007 — was a kind of coming of age for the youngsters we had then. People like Zaheer, Harbhajan, Yuvraj, Sehwag and Kaif all stepped up. Most of them became the foundation of a team that went from strength to strength on the field and in their minds, individually and as a unit. For the next 15 games or so, that is what the core of India’s tomorrow will have to do. They have to get to know their own games. This doesn’t mean get to know how to play in a Test, ODI or T20 format, but how to prepare mentally, to know ‘this is what I need to do to be at my best’. That is something they need to understand quickly.

Its a slight worry when the back up players / future of Indian cricket are so out of touch and so out of sorts after so much international experience[/quote'] jadeja is the only one i dont like. kohli is a good player, just out of form. he scored heaps of runs for us and in difficult situations too, leading india to wins in big chases. i am not worried about him and then rohit, yeah he is really frustrating. but again, not a bad player. he has done well for us in tough games, most recently in the asia cup final when he scored a neat 41 to hold the innings together. i think u should relax, we will be alright. other teams would kill to have fringe players that average over 40+

The last 3 home ODI series we played against Australia, Lanka and South Africa, our bowlers conceded an average of 296 runs every innings spread across 13 matches. So its not limited to a few grounds, but almost across all venues. Yes, we did win 2 of 3 three and the opposition bowlers too went for runs. But my general point is, we cannot devise a WC winning strategy that is based on our batting to deliver every time. As we’ve seen even in this series, that is not going happen and our batsmen will falter every once in a while. Yes, spread across a 5-7 match series, our batsman are probably better than most opposition teams and fetch us a win, but in a tournament with knock-out phases, that will not work out so well. Do you remember, we absolutely dominated the Asia cup and the Kitply cup league phases in 2008,but were out done by Mendis in the finals of the Asia cup and a 100s from Salman Butt and Younis Khan in the Kitply cup finals. In fact, we have won only TWO multi-lateral tournaments in the last three years – The Compaq cup in 2009 and the Asia cup in 2010. On the other hand, we have only lost TWO bilateral series in the same time period (both against Australia). This is no co-incidence and its because of our over-reliance on our batsmen. That is ok in a multi-match, bilateral tournament where our batsmen are good enough to win more games than the opposition, but we cannot rely upon that in tournaments with knock-out phases.

We need a Fully fit team. Team anagement needs to understand when we have half of our 1st team batters out they cant afford to play 6 batsmen. This isnt rocket science that they are taking so long to get this fact. Jadeja is a bowler who can hang around for some time on his best, but you cant expect him to 'score' runs. He is not a ODI kinda batsman. Batting is our strength we need to play 7 batsmen.
