Forget the rankings' date=' ask yourself, Is India the best test team in the world right now ? I think India is very competitive and can beat anyone on its day but [b']far from best. It doesn't have the bowlers.
So India is far from the best ? Who is this best that is so much better than India ? The OZ of 2001 ?? :giggle::giggle: Here are the top teams and their performances: SA: Won away series in OZ, Lost home series against OZ, Drew away in India, Drew at home with Eng OZ: Lost home series against SA, Won in SA, lost in India 2-0, Lost ashes, Drew against Pak SL: Lost all away series ever, drew at home with India Eng: Won ashes, lost away series in WI, lost away series in India, lost home series against India

So, bottomline is that India has not won in SA and Aus. While these two nations have won in India. It comes down between these two teams. Although England has the one of the best spinners in the world in Swann, while these two teams don't. SL is not in the contest. India should be in top 4 teams for sure.

Retard. Do you know how different the OZ team was that won in India in 2004 ? This is 2010. Last time OZ came here, they lost 2-0 while we lost 2-1 in their land. Just like I thought, you ARE comparing the OZ of 2001-2006 with the current teams :hysterical: :hail: :hail: @ your logic.

The all conquering team of Australia under Steve Waugh didn't win a series in India. Does it mean it wasn't number one? Go and try to understand the ranking system first. Then come and see what rubbish you've been talking here.

Not only India, Waugh's side never won in Sri Lanka either. And after that they have never won in England. Australia's only win in India was way back in 2004, I am sure they should be made number 1 based on those results or the fact that they have not been able to beat India for 6 straight test matches now. :hysterical:

Th very definition of contradiction "Where is it written that a team needs to win in Oz and SA to be ranked as number one?" If by No.1 you are merely interested in the numerical aspect then yes we are No1. But if by No.1 you mean the best i.e team conquering all conditions or more than any opposition then no India does not qualify, not yet. My understanding of the No.1 team is the best team in the world. "The all conquering team of Australia under Steve Waugh didn't win a series in India. Does it mean it wasn't number one?" To make that statement you have to detach from any sense of history associated with team. India haven't won a series in Aus and SA and they haven't even been competitive till this decade. They had been technically fond out time and again, so the burden of proof is much greater on the Indian team to prove its credentials in bouncy conditions. There is still some way to go but they have improved. Steve Waugh's side destroyed every opposition, their ranking was just "number". While Ranking is an indication of some consistent cricket over the decade, but we won't have the respect that Waugh's side had. We don't have side or the record to earn that respect, not yet. Even Waugh's supreme side had the question mark after India tour, in next tour they won under Gilchrist and ended that. I say if we win in SA we will go a long way to raise eyeballs. "Go and try to understand the ranking system first." I don't have to. At a point SL was the No.2 test team in rankings. It tells me all that I need to know. Maybe you need to detach from the fanboyism and look objectively. My cricketing logic is enough to suggest that SL are woeful in non sub continental conditions and that is all that I need to know. "Then come and see what rubbish you've been talking here" Maybe I can post in hindi, so that the rubbish can be decoded for dummies. I am actually quite amazed that people have stuck with the ranking issue. I guess most senti Indian fans keep clinging on to it. Rankings wasn't the issue. Issue was IPL. Maybe I have pressed more than one nerve here.

^ If we have self loathing idiots like you who jabber and jabber garbage about India not being the number 1 team without even knowing how the rankings system works, obviously we will not get respect.

All it wants it results in all conditions. Results will shut everyone up. However, it is delusional fanboys like you who keep holding the No.1 sign as though it should mean something which is what makes all Indian cricket lovers look stupid. If you were a true fan, you would be more probing of the team's pedigree.

Did Bradman score a century in India ? But still he must be considered as best bat. Did he score in all condition ?

Good, so by that argument if India only plays in India and no where else and wins matches would you say we are the best team in the world. I am asking a reasonable question. At the moment, there are 3 tough places to win test matches outside of India. Eng, Aus and SA. Ind did win in Eng. 2 yrs back. You can add SL too. If India wins one two of these places, it would be world no. 1 for the world which is what I want, not couple of fanboys as it is the case now.

World? What world are you talking about? One which looks for self interests, money, and cheap popularity? You can pander to their boots, and keep on pandering for whatever the results they'll sensationalize and sell cheap articles to idiots like you who enjoy wallowing in self loathing. There is a big enough market out there. Any objective, analytical, and detached person knows that India is the best test team in the world. The proof lies right in this thread when you resorted to idiocy like India is playing more tests so they can stay number 1 and have to bring in series wins by other teams a decade ago to 'justify' their right to the number 1 spot over India. To justify my position, I don't have to resort to moronic statements like that and that in itself shows who is closer to the truth. http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=233675
