achilles
You seem to be misinterpreting what I am trying to say. This is another thing for the media to pounce upon. I can see this making the headlines of the 'Sydney Morning Herald' {a very very respectable publication} with the title 'Hindu Extremists .... ' May I know why the very very respectable publication kept quiet when Indian students were getting beaten by "Racist Australians" in Australia? Half of Commonwealth Games volunteers disappear with kit :The Times of India :hysterical: "Large numbes of Indians have liked the Commonwealth Games volunteer uniform, so much so, they have signed up for volunteering duties, received their smart clothes worth 12,000 rupees and then disappeared. US, British & European aid disappears somewhere along the way with a 10% here and there. Just saying

saneindian
Things have suddenly gone quiet on the CWG front. No more complaints on security/dirt/filth/cleanliness in rooms? Media is completely focussed on the Ayodhya issue right now. Even the test match that startstomorrow is not getting much coverage so far!!

Ram
The problem in India is that there’s actually very less awareness, even talk of moral or ethical behavior. The lines that separate right and wrong at blurred at best and totally non-existent at worst. You see it everywhere, from scumbag autodrivers that try to rip you off every single time to corrupt politicians and govt. workers to hospitals that fool patients into overpaying for treatments that were never required in the first place. People will think twice about committing something, only if they had a sense that what they’re doing is possibly not right. If there’s no moral compass at all in the first place, where’e the question of checks and balances that follow? Its not like our peoples are any less inherently moral than peoples of other societies. Its just that we’re brought up in a culture that places very less, almost no emphasis on ethical behavior. There are countless ‘nationalists’ who lose not a single second in touting our ‘culture and history’ over the crass commericalisation in the Westers society. But what kind of ‘culture’ allows for millions of destitute people to roam in the streets without food, water and shelter. What kind of ‘culture’ is it that almost condones, even institutionalizes child labor or discrimination among different groups of people? The West is no angel when it comes to morals, but at least, they have a basic understanding and respect for certain human rights when it comes to their people and that’s what keep their society from falling apart. Of course, the tables are completely turned when they focus their attention to other nations and it is nowhere more evident than when they decide to wage wars against their enemies. What has happened in these commonwealth games is emblematic of the problems that afflict our nation. It is so sad, almost depsressing that we have been reduced to this.
