Harbhajan undergoes MRI scan, may be advised rest Press Trust of India Posted: Tue Sep 28 2010 As India gears up for the tough Test series against Australia, its spin spearhead Harbhajan Singh today underwent an MRI scan in a local hospital after suffering a side sprain. The off-spinner was seen limping during the practice session of the team as his ankle was bandaged. He though took part in the training after taking a break. He later bowled at the nets of Sector-16 stadium here after the conclusion of the match between Australia and Board President's XI and then in the evening went to Fortis Hospital for the MRI scan. "He underwent an MRI scan around pelvic and hip area. There is no serious injury but since he got a sprain, it would be advisable to take rest for the next few days," Fortis sources said. Harbhajan will visit the hospital in the morning to know the status of his niggle. Both the India openers -- Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag -- have also suffered minor injuries.
fineleg Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Except perhaps a few, most of our cricketers are so injury prone :(( Big blow if we cannot field an experienced 11 against Aus! Aus will kill Mishy if he bowls! HS, GG and Sehwag too having a scare! What next? Will ZK last 2 tests? :((
Manny_Pacquiao Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 a spinner should never get injured. they have the smallest workload, stand on the boundary all day, bowl off a few steps and in bhajji's case, smack the ball around and play small cameo innings how the hell can someone like that get injured. the only way would be in some sort of fielding mishap
saneindian Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Didn't he have the same problem during the Lanka series? Looks like he played the CL without getting fully fit. Pity really. Unless he is 100% fit, he should not be playing in any of the tests. We suffered becuse of that in the first 2 tests in Lanka.
ZodiaC Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Bhajji  Out of form, and now even started to get injured every now and then.. Time to groom new spinners like Ashwin..
Chandan Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 a spinner should never get injured. they have the smallest workload, stand on the boundary all day, bowl off a few steps and in bhajji's case, smack the ball around and play small cameo innings how the hell can someone like that get injured. the only way would be in some sort of fielding mishap Smallest workload? A spinner keeps on bowling tirelessly for more than 10 overs in a spell and most of the times bowls 25+ overs a day, sometimes even 30 overs and you call that small work-load? Standing on boundary doesn't mean one is sleeping there. He has to run, stop the ball and throw it back which again takes the energy out of the shoulders and arms. Spinners like Shane Warne always stood in the slips and had some respite but bowlers like Harbhajan don't have that luxury because they don't have that skill either. I'm not very well aware of Harbhajan's routines but he certainly didn't have a strong work ethic right from an early age and all the injuries that are taking place now as the age is catching up are an after effect of those bad habits he had earlier on.
diegovegaz Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 good i hope he misses the first test, atleast

Mishaps can happen outside the ground too. There could be something as simple as a gym equipment going wrong, slip & fall by trodding on a cricket ball accidentally etc..wtc..

kabira Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 LOL at Manny's comments. why did Kumble, Warnie had shoulder injuries??
Fontaine Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 If Bhajji is not fully fit he should not play. He was absolutely awful against Sri Lanka when not fit so he shouldn't play if he isn't ready.
zen Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Injured or not, I will advise Bhajji a rest :P

Come on dude. Ever tried bowling finger spin for more than 10 mins in one go ? After a while you're finger gets numb and gripping the ball only makes it harder.
yoda Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Injured or not' date=' I will advise Bhajji a rest :P[/quote'] :--D
KING OF PUNJAB Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 i hope he it fit to make 1st test, he has good record vs Aus
Lord Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 from Cricinfo An ankle sprain to Harbhajan has cast a cloud over India's hopes of having their first-choice attack back in action, following endless fitness issues in Sri Lanka. Dhoni said India will take a call on the offspinner on Friday morning. If Harbhajan does not make the cut, Pragyan Ojha will assume the role of lead spinner. Mohali's seamer-friendly reputation gives Sreesanth an opportunity to make the final XI as the third fast bowler, ahead of legspinner Amit Mishra. The batsmen pick themselves and, barring last-minute fitness issues, M Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara are likely to sit out. looks like he wont play I agree with CI,Sree should play ahead of Mishraji if Bhajii is out
Texy Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Naah dont agree with this. They bowl the most no.of overs and that takes a toll . And have a look at how Harbi fields in the outfield and to his own bowling he is most certainly not the old-skool types who graze at fineleg. nahh...she would disagree :-D
saneindian Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 from Cricinfo looks like he wont play I agree with CI,Sree should play ahead of Mishraji if Bhajii is out He has been bowling without any discomfort in the nets.
Lord Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 He has been bowling without any discomfort in the nets. dunno where u got that from,I read that he bowled for half an hour with obvious discomfort n then 'hobbled' back to the dressing room Dhoni's statements is more than enough indication,he says he'll take final call on him tomorrow, has nothing of sort about GG or Viru.
fineleg Posted October 1, 2010 Posted October 1, 2010 If HS does not do his job in this match, he needs to be out of the team. His tag as Spin-Spearhead of Indian attack is becoming a big joke. A post on the cricinfo commentary from a spectator: Harbhajan has looked so clueless in this innings so far and he did no better in SL. It's about time the selectors started thinking about alternatives
