bihutoli Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 This was a lighter crime' date=' a crime committed without realizing the consequence (he was 18 when he did it), it's all about getting along with friends. [/quote'] So the ******* had the intelligence to capture the dead dude's private moments via spy cams and publish it over the net, but he did not realize the consequence. In that case he should be institutionalized.
Texy Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 His life is probably ruined. No one will ever hire him unless he runs away to India and marries a girl from the village....so in the end he might have gotten a lighter sentence but life will punish hiim big time once he leaves that prison cell. Imagine lost friends, family members breaking contact.
yoda Posted May 22, 2012 Posted May 22, 2012 http://www.cnn.com/2012/05/21/justice/new-jersey-rutgers-sentencing/index.html Though Ravi and Molly Wei -- a fellow student who admitted to joining Ravi to watch the surreptitious encounter that others were alerted to via social media -- were charged in the wake of Clementi's suicide, they were not charged directly with his death. There is a difference between what he can be charged for per the law and what we all think is the moral/indirect connection. Yes the guy died because of this incident, but in legal sense, it is not the same. Showing someone's sex life to the public cannot amount to aiding/abetting suicide just because the affected person decides to jump off the bridge. That is the clear distinction in this case. The guy had to be tried and sentenced for the act alone, not for whatever happened following the act which was Clementi's own choice. He did not push that guy from the bridge, he did not help him jump over the bridge. Yes, he was indirectly responsible, but there is no direct connection. This is the equivalent of an employer firing a guy and the person jumping off the bridge cause he couldn't take it. You can sue the employer of wrongful termination (if there is merit to that), you can't try them for aiding/abetting suicide. Given that he wasn't even charged for the death, the judge cannot sentence him for that.
