Whassup with the 1960s attitude towards batting by Harbie and ZK?

Its not that HS and ZK cannot bat. They have the ability to bat well, and infact to their respect have really scored valuable runs against several oppositions and even when India was in a tough spot. So they can really score the runs - be it in ODIs or in Test matches against quality opposition. I think it is an attitude issue currently (more than form or ability). Suddenly they seem to think that when they come to bat, they can just do what they want, and dont have to apply themselves and bat or give support for a session. Why this change? There used to be a time when HS used to take batting very seriously, and ZK is no mug either. Easily 60 runs between the two of them. We are missing that now.

Agreed. But its not in just one or two matches. Recently both HS and ZK seem to do this careless batting - whether it is ODIs or Tests. Its not so much that they are unable to negotiate the bowling. I can agree we dont have to expect them to negotiate hostile bowling. But they play some random careless shots. Just the application is what we expect, if they try honestly kudos to them - thats all we want from them, just put a premium on your wicket. Ishant is far less talented than HS/ZK when it comes to batting, Ojha is far far less talented(the latter is a bunny I think). But they seem to try. Try to stay around and give support or score some runs if possible, is what we ask for. Amit Mishra is not a batting talent, A.Mithun is not a batting talent either. But they want to be honest triers. ZK and HS have a lot more skill than any of our tailenders in fact, hopefully they will apply themselves better in the forthcoming series. India are woefully short by 60+ runs in this Bangalore test :nervous: Last 5 wickets fell for 9 runs!

When you have quality bowling and fielding set for tailenders, then you often can't score well. Aus set up the fielders perfectly for Bhajji. Bhajji played a nice looking wierd shot which he doesn't play often on watson's bowling and got a boundary rite near the mid wicket cordon. next delivery he got out with similar delivery swinging in with fielder already standing up close. Ponting's field setting needs to be praised here. He didn't take too long to realizer that they can fold the batting line up rite away and put on the target

Blame BCCi for his form loss. Dhoni is a human not a robot. Captain & fulltime keeper/bastman of India tests,ODIs,20/20 teams plus same responsibilites for IPL & Champions League team. His work load is ridiculous.:nervous:

Ishant did. I am talking abt HS in particular, and ZK too. I dont expect them to do miracles. But just an honest attempt without being careless would suffice. These two are capable yoda, just they need to apply themselves. I do respect HS and ZK for having batted well in many of our other series. Not taking that away from them.

Zak and Harby can learn a lot of Ishant. But some people are just hardwired to bat in a certain way, you cannot change it no matter what. Someone like Afridi HAS to swing every third ball, EVEN if he’s in the non-striking end. :giggle:

Thats the point. In the eyes of the OP poster at the time, even though many disagreed. If one makes these threads and gets them hopleslessley wrong then deserves bumping. And in Fineys case there has been non stop barrage of cricticism against Bhaji, almost a campaign against him from finey and many others. Bhjai deserves support. Plus its all good fun. Why is everyone getting their knickers in a twist about bumping threads or I told you threads, these types of things have being going on in ICF since it started and all part of the fun. Stop being so serious everyone, its all good banter!
