King Tendulkar Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Zakky and batters rightly getting credit. But once again our spinners did great job. They offered great control and accuracy. Yeah they may not bowl murali and warne magic turners all the time. But they offer determination, accuracy and patience. Look at how woeful hauritz and aussie spinners were. It makes you realise we are well stocked in that dept with very good reliable performers. Well done bhaji and oijha.:two_thumbs_up: p.s bhaji was second highest wicket taker. Also took more wickets then oijha in their personal shoot out(also better average and s/r):giggle:
kabira Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Indeed. They kept the run flow down and took some crucial wickets
Fontaine Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Ojha was very impressive given his inexperience and the kind of pressure he was under. I was impressed by his ability to continue to loop the ball even when batsmen like Ponting were looking to attack. Definitely an upgrade over Mishra!
Ram Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Absolutely. Both the wins wouldn’t have happened but for the spinners. It was the spinners who kept us in the game on day 1 Mohali with their controlled bowling. It was the spinners again who bought us back into the game yesterday on day 4. I hope this series puts to rest all the frankly stupid talk of playing 3 seamers at home. :P On Indian pitches, We need TWO specialist spinners.
Shane Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Bhajji can still do better both with the bat and ball, we were used to seeing him destroy sides with his bowling and frustrate the hell out them with the bat. He bowled well, but missed some crucial runs at No 8.
putrevus Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Ojha was very impressive given his inexperience and the kind of pressure he was under. I was impressed by his ability to continue to loop the ball even when batsmen like Ponting were looking to attack. Definitely an upgrade over Mishra! Mishra for a leg spinner is not big turner and has very few variations totally dependent on his googly and is very slow thru air.He also is very expensive .I thought Ohja would be a failure but he is doing far better than Mishra. But Ohja needs to improve his fitness and fielding.
Sid Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Really happy to see ojha's performance in this series and the SL series,he has cemented his spot in the team as a second spinner and thankfully ended that musical chair selection of second spinner in the team which was going on before the SL series. Ojha is a quality bowler and he showed that in this series ,he bowled tight line anbd length and kept batsmen in check and helped Dhoni control the game by not giving away runs and taking crucial wickets and also helped bhajji attack from the other end
Andy Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Bhajj should Improve. Ojha looked more threatening TBH.
thevortex Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Did anybody watch Ojha's action closely? On topic - indeed, our spinners simply showed what the virtues of attacking the stumps are. Hauritz for the most of the series floated balls outside off stump and tried to turn it back. Problem is, good batsmen of spin can drive both against and with the turn if he keeps that up constantly. The moment he tried his variations while changing his line closer to the stumps, he succeeded - in getting Pujara's wicket. That was too little too late. These pitches did not offer too much to the spinners. Considering that, Ojha and Harbhajan showed exemplary control. Full credit to them.
fineleg Posted October 13, 2010 Posted October 13, 2010 Ojha did much better than Bhajji. For being "the leading spinner" of the Indian attack, Bhajji needs to show some improvement. Not bad in this Test, so good job Ojha and HS. We need a leg spinner replacement for Kumble? No one in sight :((
King Tendulkar Posted October 13, 2010 Author Posted October 13, 2010 ^ There are no leggies in world cricket at the moment at all, best one is Kaneria which says it all really. Bhaji did well, 2nd highest wicket taker in series, you guys are so harsh on him
zen Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 What day has come that we have to give credit to the spinners for doing well on 4th day in India :omg:
