Salman Butt, the former Pakistan captain, has questioned the reliability of the News of the World sting, claiming Mazhar Majeed, an agent who handled his marketing and promotions, and features in the video, could have made exaggerated claims "to show his authority". Butt, along with fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, has been provisionally suspended by the ICC for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing controversy. His appeal will be heard in Doha on October 30 and 31. Butt told Associated Press that Majeed "must have made lots of claims ... clearly exaggerating things to show his authority." "I think he might have said a lot of things in that video because it was edited. So nobody knows what has gone wrong in that video." Butt defended, however, the association he shared with Majeed before the allegations surfaced. "He (Majeed) is not somebody who is an agent for me because he has been there even before I was (playing international cricket). These are the people who deal with the marketing side of players and the promotional stuff and they also make money out of it. This is what is being done in the sporting arena around the world and this is not something that came up with Salman Butt." In the aftermath of the controversy, the PCB issued instructions to players, stipulating that all their agents will have to approved by the board, failing which the player will be ineligible for selection. Butt led Pakistan in the four-Test series against England and said he was hoping to return to lead the national team. "I hope the captaincy will come again some day. I cannot grab it. God gave me one chance and I hope I will get the other chance as well. I was at one of the shows last week where they said following the spot fixing scandal, a new scoring pattern had been now put in place by the ICC. You get 1 run for a wide, whatever runs you score of a bye or legbye and for a noball you get 20000 £ and a jacket :--D

The Scoundrel doesn’t have the courage to come out and say ‘I didn’t not spot-fix matches, I did not take any money, nor did I ask Mohammed Asif and Mohammed Aamir to overstep deliberately. My association with Mazhar Majeed was purely on a player-agent level. We did not have any other dealings of any other nature whatsoever. I have never cheated on the field while playing for Pakistan nor will I ever do so… Instead, all we get is technicalities.. ‘I am innocent until proven guilty, Player agents have been around for a long time..They have to prove their claims first..’ and all that blah blah.. Everyone knows that match-fixing allegations are notoriously hard, even impossible to prove. What Scoundrel Butt is hoping for is that the court of arbitration doesn’t find the evidence compelling enough to pronounce him guilty. After that, he hopes that he can, along with his cohorts can make a triumphant return to international cricket, in an action akin to applying soot to the faces of all players and fans like, who have genuine love the game. Lets not forget, even career cheats like Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja were let off in the end. But what did BCCI do? It never picked them. If ever the PCB wants to restore honor and respectability to Pakistan cricket, they should do the same. They cannot ensure the Butt and his criminal associates are found guilty in a court of law, what they can do is to make sure they’re never selected again, ever. But knowing Pakistan cricket and PCB, it will be no surprise if all the three alleged players are back in green within 12-15 months. If there’s one thing PCB relies heavily on, it is that public memory is short. People will just forget everything that happened and it will be business-as-usual pretty soon.

Even if PCB bans them they will be back after 6 months as their bans are unreliable and they ll have a signature board saying save aamir forget the rest .

An offtopic discussion but we are struggling to control one state of J&K. We have tried using words and force, we have failed (for the better part of our experiment). Do you think we would have been able to control a nation where its "My Way or the High Way"? I think Partition was God's way of taking the right decision for us. We would have been embarrassed to pieces had these nut jobs been our fellow countrymen. They would've given us a bad name everywhere they would've gone and WE would've suffered.
