Why are people here treating this guy like dirt? He's done EXACTLY what other players who are in this situation should have done. Where Amir/Butt/Asif failed miserabely and cheated, Haider took a stand and played his best for his country no matter what the consequences. Honest (at least so far on the surface) players like him should be congratulated for being brave enough to do this. I don't agree that he should have just fled from the situation and gone to London but no cricket player should ever be criticized or ridiculed for taking action against corruption.

but thing is why are all these bookies or match fixers after pakistan cricketers only and no other country's players are facing this issue day in day out. Why is it every time these fixers only want Pakistan to lose , Pakistan winning is more of surprise than losing.They lose all the time so what is big deal about it.

hats off to the guy..! when threatened with life, no one wud go complain to the authorities and expect them to protect u from an entire network of bookies....ud rather run away. He kept his cool to win the 4th ODI for his country against the worlds best pacers.

Zulqarnain Haider's covert escape from the international squad and his arrival in England has quickly banished the euphoria of two nail-biting victories over South Africa. What drove Zulqarnain to this extreme measure isn't entirely clear but he is certainly a troubled young man. Threats to Pakistan cricketers are not new, and at the very least Zulqarnain's act will help people outside Pakistan understand some of the pressures that he and his colleagues uniquely face. Pakistan cricketers, like other human beings, aren't born corrupt. They are products, even victims, of their peculiar environment. Experienced voices in Pakistan are already condemning Zulqarnain's behaviour. He should have turned back to Pakistan and his cricket board in the first instance, they say. Perhaps so. But it is equally understandable that he might feel unable to trust the current malfunctioning cricket board, despite the ICC task force's rather hasty announcement of the PCB's wonderful progress in combating corruption. Naturally, he would feel safer in exposing his concerns in England than in Pakistan, or even Dubai. Whistleblowers in any walk of life face being discredited. They are marginalised, lose their jobs, and may experience personal danger. They are quickly dismissed as attention seekers and scandalmongers. Zulqarnain might turn out to be either of these but for now he deserves understanding. It takes guts, extreme provocation, or both, to walk out on an international career, something you have worked all your life for and dreamed every night about. Zulqarnain might not be the most talented player to represent Pakistan but he has shown plenty of guts and determination on the cricket field. He clearly wants to win. He puts his country first, he says. He has dedicated victories to Imran Khan's cancer appeal and Pakistan's flood victims. To me, this is the behaviour of a man whose heart is in the right place, only an extreme cynic would think otherwise. Where Zulqarnain's mind is, however, is anybody's guess. But now that he has set off on this lonely road he needs to fully expose everything that has gone before, whatever the short-term cost to cricket and cricketers in Pakistan and elsewhere. Once we know the full extent of Zulqarnain’s trauma that will be the time to properly judge the man who wanted to be Pakistan's wicketkeeper.

Maybe its easier in Pakistan to pressure on the players in other ways, something they may not be able pull off in other countries. So they'll approach these other players who will turn them down. Pakistani players could be told fix the match or there'll be harm brought to your family

This looks flimsy! SOme random guy approached and threatened him, this guy took his passport and ran away! I feel this lad needs some psychological counselling! He must have been upset with his team mates or bosses and he pulled this stunt :hmmm:

Its sad to see people ridiculing him "Atleast as per what everyone has heard and assuming its true " this guy didn't fall into the garbage and want to play honestly for his country. For that, he and his family is threatened. He had no other choice but to save his life from the dungeons.

Haider needs to man up. Looks like he enjoyed UK so much in summer that would like to live there:haha: No way he could get on plane without visa, as airlines very strict on this as they get fined heavy for such things of people without visas. Thus must have visa still current from summer tour, realised it was running out and so thought it was now or never!
