fineleg Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 (Hypothetical): Which set of fast bowlers/medium pacers would you pick for Tour of South Africa? Lets say you have a choice: Group A: Zaheer Khan (of present form and age) Ishant Sharma (of present form and age) Sreesanth (of present form and age) Group B: Kapil Dev (a young Kapil of the 1980s) Madan Lal or Chetan Sharma (have your pick) Roger Binny Group C: Kapil Dev (aging, dimnished energy but still decent bowler, the latter era Kapil during Jav.Srinath times) Javagal Srinath Venkatesh Prasad No mix and match between the groups allowed in your choice! Question: 1. Purely from a bowling standpoint, which group would you pick? 2. If you consider Kapil Dev as an allrounder (early era, and maybe dimnished ability in Group C due to age?) which group would you pick

Guest Gunner Posted November 8, 2010 Posted November 8, 2010 Group C: Kapil Dev (aging, dimnished energy but still decent bowler, the latter era Kapil during Jav.Srinath times) Javagal Srinath Venkatesh Prasad This one already went in 92 and lost. Not sure whether VP was there but the other two definitely.

fineleg Posted November 8, 2010 Author Posted November 8, 2010 ^ Room pottu yosippor sangam has strength - we can admit more folks into that :winky: This one already went in 92 and lost. Not sure whether VP was there but the other two definitely. Well, loss may also be due to the batsmen. I am not looking at the "entire team of 92". I am talking abt just bowling resource here (pace, not spin). So, if we assume we have the batting of today (not 1992-style batting), then who would be the set of pacers one would pick? Esp. question 2 - Kapil can be considered an allrounder, and we are missing an allrounder in the team balance today. (bhajji's 100 notwithstanding).

Well, to address point 1, we lost a five match series 1-0, so it was not a collapse per se all the time. We just couldn't bowl them out and neither could they. Our batting in 92 was not as bad as it was going to get a year or two later. SRT scored his first 100 in SA that series. :winky: Kapil of 92 was well past his sell by date so no I wouldn't pick him. If you had a combination with ZAK, Srinath and IS or SS I would take it, no other combination would be as interesting. If not I would stick with what we currently have.

Fair enough, that would be Group A How was Kapil Dev's batting after 1990?

sudheer kumar Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 These three sets are equally rated... we can justify one of these sets is best. Every one bowled/bowling with their full strengths. It is not easy to pick one of these.

rkt.india Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 I would like to have Kapil of 1980, Srinatjh of 1997, Zak of todays, Sree of 2006, and IS of 2008:winky:
Sir john Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 finey one question? you think too much about team india, you should be a anchor in a cricket show.

I keep on telling the new comers to talk in English, but if the older members keep on violating the the words of mods wonder how the newer members are going to be kept in check!!
fineleg Posted November 9, 2010 Author Posted November 9, 2010 Chandan, All the cricket talk on this thread did happen in English. There were some side comments and the ones you have are just those light banter, but yeah point noted. We'll try to keep chit chat to chit chat forum as far as possible.
maniac Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Group C definetely as I remember Srinath and Prasad doing really well in the 1996 tour...With our current batting lineup we would have an awesome chance of winning the series Not undermining Group A though as Zak,Sree and Ishanth along with RP have done really well on overseas tours
