Ojha in SA could be a liability..he doesn't turn the ball all that much and no variations apart from change of pace.. we should take a decent leggie who can bat..Chawla should be tried IMO

Comparing Ojha to Kumble : Kumble had a lot of variations(googly,flipper) apart from pace and importantly-extracting bounce... Ojha doesn't even seem to have an arm ball - which is a norm for left arm spinners.. Considering that there are no big turning spinners in our domestic scene, instead of taking a namesake pure spinner who isn't much of a bat.. we should probably take a utility player along who can bat ( which is sadly what harbhajan is these days..although i don't see him repeating his heroics against Stey/Morkel) - Chawla has looked decent with the bat during warm-up matches against touring sides.

Or Ashish Nehra who's been a much more controlled and aggressive bowler since his comeback. Not to mention he's a left armer and has been injury free compared to Sree who's always breaking down. BOTH of these guys, on MERIT deserve to be in the team AHEAD of the dancing donkey.

Nehra last played a First Class match more than 2 years back and broke down after bowling 10 overs. I can really see the MERIT in your argument.

In that case it would a 50-50 coin toss on how he would end-up ( an Ishant or an Aamer). .

Amir did Jack sh!t on sub continent wickets. He was lucky Pak was playing overseas on English wickets most of the time

Praveen kumar would be a disaster in Tests.. its like Ajmal,Razzaq,Moody..etc bowling in Tests..ineffective if the batsman isn't tryng to play his strokes. Not to mention that the red cherry doesn't swing as prodiguously as the white..and PK simply doesn't have the pace to reverse it when it is older..it would be as good as Dhoni bowling the overs.. Like someone above mentioned..Mithun,RP should have a go in the final test..

Asif doesnt have the pace either but he is much more effective with the red ball than the white one. Also he has been doing great in the domestic tournaments and does swing the red ball a good distance too. So what you are saying is your perception and not reality. If Asif would have been playing Indian domestic cricket, this is exactly what most of you would have said about him too. Praveen's USP is his excellent line and length in the longer format where he can bowl at the same spot day in and day out, causing batsmen to force the issue and hardly giving any loose balls. Such bowlers have historically been very succesful in tests.

Also FFS it's time to bring back RP Singh especially for the SA tour. This guy pretty much dominates every time he bowls in South Africa and now that he's coming into some serious form in Ranji Super there's no way he can be left out of the touring squad.

Its true that this is just my perception - I've not seen this guy bowl in the domestics. From what I've seen of him in international cricket..he is excellent with the white ball..varies his pace and has an excellent slower delivery to fox batsmen who are looking to score. Even if he was extremely accurate, the difference is that top-order batsmen are willing to play a waiting game in tests.. and score off the bad bowlers from the other end. He could well end up with figures of 25-8-51-0 in tests which doesn't really help the side's cause on most occasions. And as Fontaine mentioned - bounce is a cruicial factor too.To say that 'he can bowl at the same spot day in and day out' makes him out like Mc.Grath which he isn't - I simply can't see him bowling hostile spells to batsmen ..and keep them guessing on his length by slipping in bouncers. He just seems too Robin Singh-ish (thats a little cruel) RP Singh over him please.

Now that he's coming into some good form in Ranji Super, it's the perfect time to include him in the squad and see what he can do. He pretty much outbowled Sreesanth the last time these two bowled together in England even though Sree had the new ball.

RPS has become FAT. Struggling to hit 82-83 mph in the ongoing ranji match vs Baroda being telecast on Neo. Bowled a lot of rubbish to some unknowns young Baroda batsmen!! As for that "awesome delivery" the last time he bowled that kind of a delivery was in Januray 2008 in the Aus tour. Since then his form, pace, rhtyhm, fitness everything has gone for a toss!! Yes he picked a 5er recently ina Ranji match. But isn't yet ready for international cricket. Was panting heavily after bowling a 4 over long spell today!! And if you see him chase a ball on the field, you will yourself feel embarassed. Unless he sorts out his fitness problems, he should not be coming back to team India. Let him repeat those good bowling performances in 2-3 ranji games.

Everytime PK and RPS have bowled together (be it for UP or India), PK has normally outbowled RPS irrespetive of the conditions. Have watched him bowl with the old ball in a few ranji matches and he bowles with good control and batsmen find it difficult to handle the cutters he bowls. For someone with such an outstanding domestic record (38 matches, 60 innings, 172 wickets, avg of 23, 13 5 wicket hauls), labelling him as a ODI specialist without giving him any test match opportunity is injustice IMO.

Thanks for letting me know. If his fitness sucks right now then he has no excuse. There's still a month to go until the first test so hopefully he can work on his fitness until then.

umesh is much better than RPS today.. rp singh is around 90 to 95 kgs.. he is really fat.. his pace is down to 125 to 128.. kinda similiar to praveen kumar ..praveen is shrewd and wud definitely bt better than him ....umesh ,unadket or mithun are better options for africa.

Unadkat is a prospect for sure. Mithun was okay in SL.but until he develops an away going one,hes gonna be fairly comfortable to handly PK is my choice too.good FC record suggests he can bowl in this format too.is accurate n can move it both ways which troubles anyone.would get bounce in SA too.

My Picks of 5 bowlers for the World Cup will include : Sreesanth will be there in the Test Squad only, not a handy ODI bowler especially on these tracks.

Looks like a bit of confused post. Gaurav, this thread was discussing how Ishant and Sreesanth's career wouls unfold as both are competing for second seamers place in final XI and then how will they do in SA. You preferred to write about your choice of WC bowlers for India in this thread and same post you mention Sree as fit only for tests??!!!
