vaibhav_delhi Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 why do you even need onfield umpire? Why can't the 3rd umpire just sit and watch the game on TV and do all the umpiring? Everytime a bowler balls up they look up on a big screen to see whether it is a wide/noball/byw/legbye/out /not out/end of over etc. well, there are many reasons, a couple of them being: 1. It saves time. you dont want to be wasting time for decisions on every delivery. 2. the 3rd umpire is not gonna revert the marginal calls, where say the on-field ump gives not-out for lbw but the ball appears to be just clipping the stumps in hawk-eye. In such marginal calls, even the technology could be wrong, so benefit of doubt goes to the batsman. And besides decision making, the on-field ump. does several other jobs as well for ex. stopping player altercations, fixing stumps (as sachinsim said) etc:).
Shawn Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 This has become a joke.UDRS doesn't do any harm to the game. Why don't we use UDRS when it can get rid of obvious mistakes? People are making fun of India on other forums I really hope BCCI will take a positive decison at least after this series. They should have agreed to use UDRS in the beginning of this high profile series in the first place.Dhoni could have got a little idea of how to use it.It's important because UDRS is there for the World Cup.
Rahul48 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 The way Kumble used it in when it was introduced made a bad impression on our players.Specially Sachin because UDRS went against him 2 or 3 times in that SL series.I think it's about time BCCI agreed to use this.We all want more correct decisions to be made so we won't see something like Sydney robbery again.

I think it was way worse that that. I think kumble got just 1 correct while SL overturned 11 decisions. Having a fixed number of appeals doesnt sound good to me. I would prefer if the 3rrd umpire sees the replay as soon as a decision looks shoddy and stops the bowler from bowling the next ball, takes his time to give the correct decision. Technology today allows us to see atleast 2~3 replays between deliveries for a spin bowler and more for a fast bowler. 3rd umpire could easily see if a decision needs to be reviewed properly within that time.

Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 this is why we need UDRS in cricket india benefited from it today, but still, a bad decision is a bad decision we need UDRS to eliminate the pathetic decisions made by these useless paki umpires
King Tendulkar Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 When you are number 1 team in the world you seem to get more decisions in your favour. Just like aussies have done for years. No UDRS until we are dethroned from number 1 slot
Nova Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 When you are number 1 team in the world you seem to get more decisions in your favour. Just like aussies have done for years. No UDRS until we are dethroned from number 1 slot Yeah right! You wouldn't be saying this if SA was bowling and we had lost a crucial couple wickets to poor umpiring decisions. Of course I don't mind things going in our favor but this approach is not good for cricket in general. I am a strong proponent for UDRS regardless of which team it benefits. The system is designed to get rid of howlers and it does it well...well Punter would disagree.
ravishingravi Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I had posted my apprehension on hawk eye here "My point is very simple. When Hawk Eye was introduced it was considered as an "estimation" for trajectory of the ball. It was brought purely for the viewer's perspective. Now, there has absolutely no innovation in the technology to assert the accuracy since then, none. And they have made it applicable for UDRS which is absurd. Now for the actual absurdity of rules. If the ump. gives it out, then the ball only has to hit the stumps even if it hits a mm on the bail. However if the ump. gives it not out, then more than 50% of ball should be hitting the stumps to overrule his decision. So, it takes the definition of law is an ass to the limit. In short, technology which does not vouch accuracy which is used to verify the ump decision yet you make it contingent to the actual decision that ump takes. I am all for technology but this doesn't make sense."
Sooda Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 After that Harris 'catch' getting reviewed the Saffie Commie going 'goodness me that review should have been used a bit earlier too' .. see this is the problem; we wont hear the end of it. This is where getting 'lucky' is annoying, we want to win clean and fair. Then Pollock had a moan
Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 how is this lucky, they havent got any excuses for the other 18 wickets anybody that thinks india wouldnt have won this game today, umpiring decisions or not, is a moron.
achilles Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 After that Harris 'catch' getting reviewed the Saffie Commie going 'goodness me that review should have been used a bit earlier too' .. see this is the problem; we wont hear the end of it. They too have benefited in the past from bad umpiring. But UDRS is a major need now.
King Tendulkar Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 Umpires decision is final, learn to repspect the decision.
King Tendulkar Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 When India on rough end we are told it evens itself up in the end. When we benefit why no UDRS!
achilles Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 KT buddy, I think if we have UDRS and Hot Spot, it will be in everyone's benefit. We will not suffer thanks to bad decisions.
Rahul48 Posted December 29, 2010 Posted December 29, 2010 I think ICC should step in now.UDRS should be used in every series. We saw the importance of it in The Ashes.People are questioning the credibility of India's victories because of BCCI's actions.TBH couple of crucial decisions did go our way in this test.

I have to agree. UDRS should be made mandatory or removed completely. Then again, there's always the option of asking what Ricky Ponting "feels in his heart" that the decision ought to be.
