dial_100 Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Dubai: The comparisons between Sachin Tendulkar and Don Bradman started almost as soon as the Indian batting genius hit the field as a precocious teenager. Yet, as long as Brian Lara was on the field, there was always a nagging doubt, whether the great West Indian was somehow better. The tongues had r... http://www.indiancricketfans.com/newthread.php?do=newthread&f=8 Wow. Brian is very open with his opion. I hope this does not stir the old debate again.
dial_100 Posted November 30, 2010 Author Posted November 30, 2010 "He is our period's Don Bradman. Forget the difference in averages with Bradman but whoever I have spoken to who have seen very old players in action, they believe that he [bradman] would not have averaged 99 in today's cricket. "So I believe that Sachin is our period's Bradman," Lara, who visited Dubai for a jewelry brand endorsement, told Gulf News. I guess this should settle it now.

Imagine if todays bowlers, steyn, akhtar, bond, lee, ambrose, akram etc bowl body-line to bradman without helmet lol....I bet they had collingwood, watson type bowlers in those days...
Sachin=GOD Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 'Tendulkar is today's Bradman", says Brian Lara Brian Lara :rock:

achilles Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 A lot of water has flowed under the bridge since the first time we at ICF started discussing the topic. I think this settles the argument.
pensionplan Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Look Tendulkar earned whatever praises he gets be it from Lara or any other great. Lara himself is a great an equal to Tendulkar as a batsman and to me even slightly ahead on his best day but when the longevity and sheer volume of runs are factored in it will be hard to conclusively argue against Lara's take on Tendulkar. I think the last 2 years of Tendulkar's amazing run have settled a lots of factors in his favor for the best ever keeping Bradman and his comparisons to him aside. Lara so succinctly puts the question of Bradman vs Tendulkar to rest instead focusing solely on Tendulkar.

Too true - Bradman would have averaged around 150.
yoda Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 some of you guys are acting as if you haven't even read the threads on the Bradman topic. :giggle: let me help you out. all the threads discussing bradman were about the all time great discussion, not about who is the current day Bradman. yes, some claimed that SRT wasn't even the second best of all time, but that wasn't the main point of discussion of those threads. I also don't remember anyone on the Bradman side of the discussion claiming that Bradman would score 99 if he played today. Ofc there were those on the other side who kept parroting that he wouldn't (which is obvious ofc) for some reason over several threads. IIRC, some of the guys on the anti-Bradman camp were laughing at Bradman (and his co.) based on past video and didn't even think he was worth comparing and now I see that some of the same guys are going gaga over SRT being nominated as the modern day Bradman. :hehe:

zen Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 Liked Lara's modesty! .... Appears as if some dumb Indian journo (probably another of those comedian type) popped up the question on Ten vs Bradman. Wisely enough Lara refrained from answering that And yes, Bradman may not avg 100 today, just like today's players would not avg 100 in Bradman's time :winky: But, as expected, it was good to see the "comedians" try to latch on to what Lara said. I guess if some of these guys were journalists, they would actually edit and twist Lara's statement to show that Tendulkar is the greatest :hehe:
King Tendulkar Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 So now both viv and lara say Tendulkar is the best. Looks like windies lads aren't afraid of taking on holy cows!

For your information, this is not the first time he said that Sachin is the best. And what Lara meant by saying Bradman wouldn't have averaged 99 in present era just after he called Sachin mordern Bradman is there for everyone (but the most blind) to see.

I don't know. It is wrong in sport to compare heroes. In modern day cricket, Sachin is the best."[/quote'] Must like Flintoff's modesty, didn't give a definitive answer knowing he'd be lynched if he said Sachin is the greatest. But he said 'Never played against Bradman' which makes it pretty clear what he wanted to say :giggle:

And what Lara meant by saying Bradman wouldn't have averaged 99 in present era just after he called Sachin mordern Bradman is there for everyone (but the most blind) to see. http://atrochatro.com/read.php?read=4549 Dubai: Saluting the longevity of Sachin Tendulkar, West Indies great Brian Lara has described the Indian batting legend as the 'Don Bradman' of modern era but refused to the compare the icons of different eras. Lara, himself a legendary left-handed batsman from the Caribbean, said what astonishes him the most about Tendulkar is his longevity. "I don't think there is any race. Both are great players. Tendulkar has shown the world what he is capable of and his longevity in the game is something to be really appreciated," Lara said. "The time he will spend in the game, records are going to tumble. The fact that someone can be there from the age of 16 and still at the age of 37 perform brilliantly is something that I cherish more than anything else," he said. The West Indies player is of the opinion that Australian great Don Bradman, who ended his career with an incredible Test average of 99.96, and Tendulkar should not be compared as they played and flourished in different eras. "He is our period’s Don Bradman. Forget the difference in averages with Bradman but whoever I have spoken to who have seen very old players in action, they believe that he [bradman] would not have averaged 99 in today's cricket. "So I believe that Sachin is our period’s Bradman," Lara, who visited Dubai for a jewellery brand endorsement, told Gulf News. It quite obvious to me that some comedian is trying to get him to compare Tendulkar with Bradman. And you should actually read the statement he made before he said "Bradman would not avg 100 today" (which is not even a point of contention as most probably he would avg around 80 :P ) By saying that Tendulkar is the Bradman of modern times, he is trying to imply that he thinks Tendulkar is better than likes of him (which I think is him being modest) even if you overlook the difference in avg, the difference b/w Bradman and Tendulkar is probably similar to the difference b/w Tendulkar and Dravid/Laxman. No other batsman has made an impact on this game as Sir Don Bradman has :winky:

All I see is the 99 average being quoted. But since you say so, must have made a lot of impact
