i was joking :winky: I would think that Unadkat would be a better choice. I've seen little of him, but whatever I saw looked quite good. He seems to have the ability to take the ball away from left hander and into right hander.

my dear the pitch is not likely to favour SPIN and it is certain that it wl favour seamers... does india they have 3 pacers to play...in seamer friendly pitches we shud try n play all 4 seamers and with raina or sehwag assisting in SPIn...if i would be the coach i wud go for HORSES for COARSES selection.. i f i am sure its a fastish greenish pitch ..why shud i play a spinner... if u r a batsmen u will understand that simple medium pacers become real difficult to play on greenish tracks. i once opened against a team against whom we have played and won many times at cross maidan Mumbai..they had a very slowish medium pace bowler opening the attack and i did hit him for a 4 of the first ball itself. Suddenly i found a second ball hit a green spot bouncing and suddenly the pace of that ball increased like crazy and found my edge and i was gone( keeper caught).... greenish pitches medium pace bowlers look real tuf leave aside fast bowlers. i mean green pitch which has a bit of moisture on the surface early morning at8:45 AM. play 3 pacers for sure.

Umesh and Unadkat are the only 2 backup fast bowlers. Although neither is ready for top-flight test cricket, in the worst case scenario, Unadkat might get picked for his maturity and variation in bowling. Umesh is one-dimensional at the moment and it would take all but one spell to complete negate his bowling.

I haven't seen a great deal of either to be honest. Yadav looked lively in the IPL but from what everyone on here has said, he looked awful against Zimbabwe. I think Unadkat has more talent but he is surely too young and inexerienced to play in this test. If Zaheer misses out i am sure that Umesh Yadav will start. The decision from the selectors to select these two youngsters is ridiculous especially given the fact that ZK has been prone to a few injuries recently.

If its true that munaf patel faked an injury because he was afraid of bowling than selectors are correct in not picking him. The fact that these two are the backups have more to do with our lack of depth in the bowling department rather than incompetance on the part of selectors imo. And I would go with unkadat because he can make use of possible overcast conditions and can land the ball on the seam to make use of some of that grass that will be on the pitch.but this is based only on what I have read. Obviously team managment knows more about these players than me so I wouldn't second guess their decision.
