Will BCCI rethink to provide warmup matches? (WI and Eng tours) Indian team starts off badly in first Test and its ridiculous if they (bcci) wont provide some help here! Will they get a good coach (if Kirsten declines new contract) - usually BCCI takes several months to find new coach, they need to discuss with G.Kirsten now on the extension. Otherwise after WC - we wont have a coach, then they get busy with "IPL" and the search for a coach will go on till end of 2011.

This thread is not abt BCCI's lack of intelligence. This thread is abt the WI and Eng tour preparation. Though this appears far away now in terms of schedule, before you know the WC will be here, and then IPL will eat away the time and our team will be up for an away Test tour. They really ought to give our team warmup matches, and also ensure there is continuity in terms of having a good coach (even if Kirsten would decline).

There are 2 more test matches, 5 ODIs vs RSA + the world cup. And you already wanna discuss Eng and WI tours ?

Unless we have bowlers that are not club level and can take 20 wickets in a international match, no match practice is going to do any good.

Actually for once the BCCI seems to have put some thought behind scheduling of WI and Eng tours. On the WI tour, we have a t20 match on June 4th and then 5 ODIs from June 6-16. The first test is from 20th-24th June. So it will give us sometime before the test series to adapt to the conditions, but again no practice match. England tour starts right after the WI tour, but we do play a practice match vs Sussex from 15-17th July. 1st test starts from 21st July and 2nd test is from 29th July. After the 2nd test vs England, we play a practice match vs Northans before the 3rd test starts on 10th Aug. There are practice matches after the 4th test ends and before the t20 and ODI series begins. So all in all looks to be a good plan, we could have done with some more time in England and perhaps a practice match in WI after the ODI series and an additional practice match in England before 1st test. But we should be happy that we wont be playinf first test of the seires without spending enough time in WI or England.

Stupid BCCI By now it is a well known fact that Indians are the worst starters in the world. WTH did we not play practice matches before the most important series of the year.WTH did we have to play that stupid 5 match series against NZ.What did we prove there? Look at teams like Eng,Aus,RSA,they play min 2 practice matches in any overseas tour and so start off well in the series.We Indians always concede the 1st match and always find ourselves under pressure thereafter.We start poorly and finish strongly,just a matter of adaptation.

We don't need "warmup matches"! Let the players rest and be fit for the real games instead of getting injured and tired over stupid warm up matches. A good amount of practice should be enough to get ready.

thanks for the info.The English series would be a kind of Swan song for some of our batting greats and i think we will get everybody's best effort in that series.

No man, can you imagine how much better we would have been in the first test if the batsmen had spent some time in the middle and bowlers had a match to adjust to the right lines and lengths. A practice match is crucial for away series'.

Niranjan Shah :mad: Buffoons like him rule the roost in BCCI. "Team should adapt" - any team needs time to adapt and acclimatize to different conditions. How will they do it 3 days after they land!?? (as per original scheduling of SA series before Kirsten intervened).

Huh, Ok! :yayo: Did we not think we will bulldoze NZ in Test series (that too being played in India). Did NZ not give us a scare in First Test? (Thanks to Laxman and Bhajji for saving that). When the team goes to West Indies, it is better they get a warmup match. And regarding ODIs serving as the warmup, we have some different players in the ODIs and Test teams
