pensionplan Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/match/63535.html recognize this ? ) . Hence the current situation. .Look to me that is not a convincing answer. VVS averages 51 in the team 2nd innings while Tendulkar averages 44. That is the bottom line. Ganguly once said the he and VVS missed out on a lot of centuries because of batting at 5 and 6 especially on sub-continent tracks because by the time they came in to bat the team would already have been in a comfortable position and that took away the chances of them settling in and play a long knock. So there is no end to all this as I see it. While you can believe in what you want to VVS to me has been the best for India in situations of lost cause and his efforts have helped India pull off some incredible wins starting with Kolkata a 2001 to the recent Durban 2010. That is not so say that others have been bad or incapable but he is better than anyone else for India in my books in those situations. Bottomline is you dont get to a position where a lot of people have declared SRT to be the greatest ever batsman without him having ever scored in pressure situationsWithout a doubt SRT has performed under pressure and that to me is beyond debate. This is about VVS and how he is better than most when the chips are down as he proved time and again and have numbers to back that claim. Also I am not sure how anyone can look at this not necessarily you but some others that it is a slight on Tendulkar or anyone else for that matter excepting that it is time of give this great batsman who goes by initials VVS - Very Very Special his due and celebrate for the wonderful player he has been for India over the years.
Manny_Pacquiao Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 no ' date=' but hes more valuable[/quote'] ??? so how can he be the best batsman if he is less valuable?
HowardRoark Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 no ' date=' but hes more valuable[/quote'] Does that mean if you have only slot for a batsmen in your team, you will choose Laxman and not Sachin?
Raghav_12 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 It is really ludicrous that Laxman plays one match winning innings and some indian fans (supposedly) start berating Sachin as if Durban was about Sachin vs Laxman rather than India vs SA. This really shows true colors of these supposedly Indian fans. People need to realize that India is no.1 test cricketing nation not because of any single player but because of total team and some fans need to know cricket is team sport. There are enough lowly creatures on this forum who's sole aim in life to oppose Sachin and for that they support Bradman, Lara, Ponting, Inzamam, Kallis, S Waugh, Dravid, Laxman or whoever is put against Sachin or as appropriate according to situation. For these creatures whole life is about main emotion of "HATE" as they are incapable of any constructive emotions of love, admiration. For all of these creature, their support to Laxman is not emanating from their love and admiration for Laxman but from their hate to Sachin. And that has been proved by this thread where they need a Sachin to show their admiration for Laxman. In some conditions, there may be individual players who is better than Sachin, be it Dravid, Laxman, Yuvi or whatever. But overall Sachin has been best batsman in world in modern era. Whenever there has been debate, Sachin always occupies one side while other player keeps changing - from Inzamam to Waugh to Ponting to Kallis to Sehwag. Coming to most valuable player for Indian team at present, it is niether Sachin nor Laxman. It is Zaheer. The way Zaheer's comeback made a difference to indian team in span of two test matches, no other player can even imagine.
Jersey #10 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 This happened a week ago! How in the world can you forget this? http://www.espncricinfo.com/south-africa-v-india-2010/engine/current/match/463146.html I wonder if a lot of people have the disease of short term memory.

Asoka Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Sachin is the greatest batsman of the modern era. VVS is the greatest batsman under pressure in the modern era. My message to SRT fanatics:Give credit where it is due,Poor VVS doesn't get half the fame, money or adulation that he deserves .Yup,Sachin is a genius, but you don't have to run down others for the sake of it.VVS produces the best innings when we are down.Learn to live with it. My message to Sachin Haters :Sachin is our greatest cricketer. After all both these great men are Indians and we must be proud of them.Do you think VVS and Sachin themselves even bother about these things?I am sure all they want is to take Indian Cricket forward.

There is no such thing as Sachin haters among Indian fans. He is our pride. But some fans don't even understand the context in which the poll was started they throw hissyfit and come up with ridiculous and irrelevant stats. Poll result has served its purpose. No argument is necessary here. 55 : 11. That is called losing deposit (in election language) :cantstop:
zen Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Righto .... so since your bird brain can only remember things going back a few days .. so naturally you think VVS is better than SRT ... which is confirmed again by the fact that you dont even remember what happened in the previous test or just a couple of months ago .... try some chyavanprash before you get into these debates ... :giggle: For your information, this is not about who fails when others fire or who fires more when quite a few fire or who failed less when everyone field :giggle: And you yourself gave us the stats where Sachin has scored in like 3 times (including one gainst BD) since 2004 (a period of 6 years) and just 14 times in 176 tests :P I hope you realize that people are not contending that Sachin can't play at all under pressure!

My message to Sachin Haters :Sachin is our greatest cricketer. In fact just opposite of that happened here. Sachin haters started running down Sachin to praise Laxman which is actual bullshit. Did anybody start a thread like "if Laxman had supported Sachin like the way GG, Sehwag, RD, Vijay and Dhoni did, India would have saved Centurion" after Centurion test. and yes I believe Laxman is better than Sachin in extreme pressure or rather hopeless situations.
zen Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 I guess the 3rd straight loss is too much to take for the comedy brigade, some folks are crying their hearts out :giggle:

I too was one such guy once upon a time.He has always been one of my heroes. But I could never forgive him if he did bad.I remember that once he scored a duck against Lanka in the 90s and I tore all my Sachin posters.
Raghav_12 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 There is no such thing as Sachin haters among Indian fans. Actually theoretically that's impossible to have a Sachin hater as an Indian fan. But there are few on ICF. You can see patterns of posts of some lowly creatures who just go to any thread to pull down Sachin and their 80-90% posts would be on pulling down Sachin wrt Bradman or Ponting or Laxman or Sehwag or Kallis or Dravid. I need not to mention these names directly.

yoda Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 and yes I believe Laxman is better than Sachin in extreme pressure or rather hopeless situations. and there is something hateful in opening a thread which states something that even you agree is true along with 5 in 6 ICFers?
Raghav_12 Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 and there is something hateful in opening a thread which states something that even you agree is true along with 5 in 6 ICFers? Nothing theoretically. But once you open a thread then you loose control of posts that people make and people starts using abusive language to other indian greats and it becomes slanging match. It's not what threads OP says, it's basic intent behind such threads which create problem. How people would have reacted had I started a poll like - "if Laxman had supported Sachin like the way GG, Sehwag, RD, Vijay and Dhoni did, India would have saved Centurion" wouldn't underlying message through this poll have been berating Laxman?
The Outsider Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Quite amusing to see how a lighthearted OP has been turned into a free for all by the Tendulkar bhakts, who seem to be quite a vocal minority.
yoda Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Nothing theoretically. But once you open a thread then you loose control of posts that people make and people starts using abusive language to other indian greats and it becomes slanging match. who has abused Tendulkar in this thread?
The Outsider Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 ^ Forget about abusing the OP is extremely lighthearted with comments like, 'Laxman is the new Goddy', which should have been taken in the same lighthearted vein in an ideal world.
spectre Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 this coming from you, its even more funnier :giggle: And some fans dont realize that you dont have to drag down someone to prop someone else who also plays in the same team. That is called idiotry in commonsense terms :cantstop:
