We know that the Ashes is the greatest sporting event in the world. The team winning the Ashes is hence the best in the world. Why do the other teams bother with the rankings ?

Gough said: “We''re now the best team in the world. This team is the Golden Generation (of English cricket). They are the side that are going to dominate world cricket for the next few years.”
Just like the football golden generation did, Goughy?:rotfl:

They might have retained the Ashes, won against a depleted and out of form Aussie side, but winning a test series against us will be tougher than Gough's grooves. I don't get this, when Australia were number 1, no one dared to challenge them or say stuff like this, but when we are number 1, some rubbish bowler like Gough and third class batsman like Vaughan saying whatever they want. I don't think our former players gives a rat's behind about the English team, and our players know England is by no means a threat to us, home or away. I mean common even Yuvraj hit their best baywatch player for six sixes and he isn't even in our test side, I wonder what will happen to Goldie Hawn when he faces the likes of Sewag, Gambir, Lax , Sachin and co.

Hahaha look at England, they can talk.. They haven't even "technically" won the series yet.. Love it when England get excited like this, now all we need is Australia to beat them in the 5th test, them to get knocked out early in the WC and India to beat them in the test series.. Then they will be back to not caring about cricket.

This post is so wrong. Gough was a world class operator who has a better average than all Indian fast bowlers....ever. And Vaughan is Vaughan, one of the most elegent players ever who could have been great had it not been for injury and captaincy. Then we have the issue of a "depleted aussie side" which well, wasnt depleted at all apart from Katich being injured. Im not even going to bother adressing "out of form side" because thats a pile of dog **** they were out of form because we made them out of form. Your last point of Yuvraj seems to indicate you have no idea about cricket, OH EM GEE some guy hit SiX SiXerS like it makes him some kind of good batsman which he isnt. I mean Dimi Mascarenhas hit 5 sixes in a row and he cant bat for ****.

The thing with the UK is the brilliant media spin machine they got going. Its a very interesting strategy to let your media loose on the opposition. It will be fun when the poms fall apart like they usually do. :haha::haha:
