LONDON: Former England captain Michael Vaughan says India are an ageing side and expects his country to succeed Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men as the number one Test side in the world. Vaughan said simultaneous retirements of established players who are already in their mid thirties, would leave a void in teams like India, South Africa and Sri Lanka, and that would pave the way for England to claim the top spot in the longer version of the game. "India are an ageing side. VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid will go soon. Zaheer Khan will not bowl forever and has suffered injuries. He missed the first Test of their series in South Africa and they lost," Vaughan said. "There is no gulf in class between No. 3 in the world and No. 1, which was the case when Australia were far better than anyone else," he added. Even the South Africans would struggle to match England in terms of talent and experience in the near future, according to Vaughan. "How much have South Africa got in reserve if Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn get injured or what happens when Mark Boucher and Jacques Kallis retire," Vaughan wrote in his column for the 'Daily Telegraph'. Talking about Kumar Sangakkara's side, the former England skipper said, "Sri Lanka have lost Muttiah Muralitharan, who put them in the top bracket of teams. They will still score a lot of runs but if you cannot take 20 wickets it is difficult over a long period to win series." "If you look at England then you can see Andrew Strauss going on for three or four years. The team can stay together for a long time and there is no great side for them to be fearful of," he reasoned. "We have seen in this series that when Stuart Broad missed out Chris Tremlett came in and performed. The same for Steven Finn and Tim Bresnan. Ajmal Shahzad is waiting in the wings, Monty Panesar is in reserve and Adil Rashid will probably be ready in a year's time. Eoin Morgan is waiting patiently, hoping he will get a chance. "England's attack would have two spinners (an offie and leggie) and three seamers. Imagine Rashid, Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson and Tremlett. What a unit that could be," he wrote. Vaughan also said that the victory in the Melbourne Test, which helped England retain the Ashes, was on expected lines. The visitors were also helped by Australia's decline in the recent past. "Remember Australia are only the fifth-ranked team in the world. The Ashes is massive and means a lot to people back home, but in reality England have only beaten a middle-ranked team. "That is not to knock their achievement. They have out-planned, bowled, and fielded Australia and shown their true potential. The best teams beat opposition the standard of this Australian side," Vaughan said. Is premature ejaculation the national favourite pastime of the English? :hmmm:

at least we will not nick players from other countries to replace our ageing players. we got players like vijay, pujara, rahane, kohli, rohit sharma, badrinath, mukund and few others

He makes some very valid points and plays down the ashes win? What is your problem?
The point is that only time can tell if the points are valid. It's all premature assumptions and wishes for now.

our bowling problem will be sorted in next 12-18 months in Test cricket. we have already got good bowlers for ODIs like munaf, nehra, praveen, sreesanth, irfan, zaheer

anything can happen in the future including losing to Pakistan :hehe: when their ICC rankings say #1, then we can look at the English team and applaud them. Till then, bow down to the current #1. :eyedance:

vaughan like many of his ilk makes ridiculous points based on no knowledge of indian cricket whats so ever. They have no idea of the strenghs and wekneeses of indian domestic cricket yet spout this nonsense. Like Prince points out the batting talent waiting to come in is breath taking! Vaughan talking nonsense

The variety of smileys that you resorted to suggests otherwise :giggle:
Well I was just doing a Satyam actually, its proven that the argument doesnt work and im not going to bother wasting time on it again.

since when cook and strauss and bell have become world beaters performing in one fricking series make these poms jump up and down. They should have lost to SA by 3-1 if not for rain and luck, If poms Indians were saved by rain in lords we would have won at oval in that case when they were following on with 334 runs. Even in this series Poms got very lucky with toss. and they have not won this series still.

By the time the giants (SRT,Dravid,VVS) leave the team, one thing that can certainly happen is that Sree, Ishant and possibly Ojha will be matured bowlers, with 40+ tests under their belt. So the loss in batting can be somewhat balanced by gain in bowling prowess. It is not like we don't have anyone quality in batting reserves. Che, Vijay , Kohli and Rohit

Trott is from Birmingham, have you listened to him? 100% brummie. Morgan is from Middlesex obviously. And have you seen KP's tattoo? Also he's married to an Englsih woman. Any questions now? And Craig Kieswetter drives a Jag. That makes him English. So does Michael Lumb. Also you're just jealous, you werent on about this when England were doing badly with Robin Smith, Tony Greig and the rest of them. Of course, you werent even born back then but thats your fault. And look, England is being this kind and giving people the opportunity to play top cricket. How can you be against that? If only the nasty Bangla basterds thought the same way, people like Nohit and Badri can actually realize their childhood dreams.

Lol Vaughan talks about SA bowling attack if Steyn and Morkel are not there. What about the English attack if both Anderson and Swann are not bowling either? Broad, Omlette and Monty will be the English bowlers!! I have a feeling England will lose the 5th test, the ODI series vs Australia , then get knocked out early in the WC and the entire euphoria will dry up.
