Some years back, I was strolling by the shops in the Charminar area and a fancy silver bracelet caught my eye. I step into the shop and even before I can gesture towards the piece the attendant starts saying some stuff at the rate of 500 words/min. I barely manage to catch a few words, and most of them seem completely So I tell this guy that I don't understand Telugu, and you'll have to say that again in Hindi/Urdu. The attendant is taken aback, and responds : Madam unaa urdu bolta. Aapko woh hona? (pointing at some displayed piece of jewellery) The worst/funnies/ best part is that the Urdu newspapers in Hyderabad are also all in the same slang-pidgin Urdu. :cantstop:

And this is coming from me' date=' a non-marathi[b'] non-manoos. Besides, most of the unskilled and semiskilled work force that enters Mumbai is from the other parts of Maharashtra. It is they who would generally be anti-immigration. As a surplus of labour puts them at a disadvantage. Another thing is that language is never a problem in Mumbai. Most working class or business class people here have a functional knowledge of Hindi/Urdu, Mararthi, Gujarati and English. I had my doubts since long. :hmmm:
