zen Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 He may not have had the series to his usual standards but I would say he was still useful. He did hit those runs at Durban in the low scoring game and his presense in the side probably prevented Smith from declaring early at Cape Town. The Sehwag factor :eyedance:
CSK Fan Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Taking the example Outsider gave the other day, in the just concluded Ashes series, Ponting averages around 16 but in the 4th innings, he averages 53 in the same series! Big help it was for the team

jhakati Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 :haha: When people with weak stomach are unable to digest solid hard cold facts about their heroes, they end up calling others a 'troll', since they don't have any substance to counter those claims. And you are no different, kid. As for twisting stats, you are the one who tried doing that to make your hero look good. I merely brought in his average outside the subcontinent, something which is usually done to introspect the ability of Asian players. You made a fool out of yourself when you claimed those stats to be twisted. Unfortunately you have no way to twist ways and make your hero look like not the choker that he is in 4th innings of Test matches, hence you decided not to speak on that topic and leave it like it is. The difference between me and you fan boys is that I'm willing to admit facts and see things from a neutral perspective, while you fan boys are unwilling to do that and end up trying to cover up facts or turn a blind eye when they seem to expose your hero in a negative light. i did show u the stats to prove ur wrong u can bark all u like but the rest of the cricketing world recognizes sehwag's genius in all conditions and he will go down as one of the best opening batsman of all time too bad u find it hard to digest his success :giggle:
King Tendulkar Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Taking the example Outsider gave the other day' date=' in the just concluded Ashes series, Ponting averages around 16 but in the 4th innings, he averages 53 in the same series! Big help it was for the team[/quote'] Shows how rubbish a lot of the stats are. Like I always stress one particularly useless stat is runs/tons in team wins. As if it proves they are some kind of match winner. Kallis and Tendulkar scored amazing tons in last match, truly amazing knocks to those who saw them. Yet they are rendered usless by match winning stats as game was a draw
Raghav_12 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Taking the example Outsider gave the other day' date=' in the just concluded Ashes series, Ponting averages around 16 but in the 4th innings, he averages 53 in the same series! Big help it was for the team[/quote'] This is very valid point. While comnparing numbers for fourth innings people tend to ignore that overall sample size for fourth innings numbers is too small to derive any conclusion based on numbers alone. Lara has highest total number of runs in fourth innings (1440) and that is not even 10% of total runs that Sachin scored. That is amount of runs which Hussey had scored with an average of around 85. Because of this small sample size fourth innings averages are hugely influenced by one or two marathon innings. I'll take an example of Gavaskar. His fourth innings average is 58. But if you take that Oval 221 out, his average comes down to 51 from 58. Similarly if you take out couple of Innings from Pontings numbers - 143* against SA in 2006 (innings played in easy conditions) 118* (v Bangladesh), his average comes down to 44 from 54. Not saying both of above two were not good players in fourth innings, but you can not derive that conclusion using numbers like averages alone. Sample size is too small and averages are hugely influenced by one or two not out innings.

Guest Gunner Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Sehwag will get owned by Anderson as if he is Stuart Broad's beetch in England next year. It will happen eight times out of eight. Who wants to put money against that?
punjabi_khota Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Sehwag will get owned by Anderson as if he is Stuart Broad's beetch in England next year. It will happen eight times out of eight. Who wants to put money against that? Me. You already lost the bet son, since we aren't playin them in england NEXT year.:finger:

Anakin Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 The fallacy of stats and not having better understanding of stats with context are a deadly mix. Anyone disagreeing with the poster would be called blind worshiping fan boys and etc. and etc.
Guest Gunner Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Me. You already lost the bet son' date=' since we aren't playin them in england NEXT year.:finger:[/quote'] Yeah whatever. I hope you won't curl up into the foetal position and cry yourself to sleep when your hero doesn't know which way the Anderson delivery is gonna go. :thefinger:

I hope you won't curl up into the foetal position and cry yourself to sleep when your hero doesn't know which way the Anderson delivery is gonna go. :thefinger: Don't worry, the ball will become older soon enough to negate any swing

Guest Gunner Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Don't worry' date=' the ball will become older soon enough to negate any swing[/quote'] Nah, Sehwag will be made to look foolish, I don't see him cross 20 runs in any innings.
ludhianvi Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Sehwag is the real deal. If ball is swinging,he'll whack it out of shape or he'll send it out of the park. With regards to 4th innings average, it will take only a couple of innings to rectify it. No worries :-) I know why Bablu made this thread :sherlock:
Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 I have a theory: These stats based, against-the-popular-opinion-for-the-heck-of-it threads that we see on a regular basis have a common motive: To prove the (fake) superiority of the poster as thinking outside the box, and having a different opinion than the masses (or the fan-boys). Well first of all, I don't have a different opinion from the rest of the masses, rather I have an opinion different from the rest of the fan boys. If you include non-Indian fans, most of them are quite familiar with the fact that Sehwag seems to somewhat struggle outside Asia. And those facts I provided are a testimony to it. If you disagree, counter them. In this very thread' date=' we have seen such phrases by OP as "I am willing to cut some slack", or "Difference between me and you fan-boys...". [b']Never mind that he is green-washed fool, who jerks off while thinking of going on long drives with his imaginary gf in his imaginary new car, talking about one of the greatest test bats ever. Or the now awol poster patriot or that ravishing poster who doesn't get that fact the #1 is ****ING #1, and claims that "India is #1 for lesser souls" First of all, you should thank your lucky stars that unlike you, my parents decided to give me a good education, and most of all unlike you I come from a descent family background. So don't expect me to stoop to your gutterish level and start throwing insults at you in the same tone. Secondly, Sehwag wouldn't find a place among the top 30 Test batsman ever, let alone him being one of the greatest Test batsman ever. One Christopher Martin Jenkings (noted cricket analyst) recently made a list of his 100 Test cricketers of all time. Guess what? Sehwag couldn't find a spot in that list. That speaks volumes about how highly he is rated by his non fan boys.
Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 Wish you were trying to be as harmless with your OP as you are pontificating. It's quite clear what the intentions here are. BTW even before this series, Sehwag's record in those "alien" conditions were nearly the same. WOnder why did not point to those weaknesses earlier. Why this sudden interest? Oh wait, he failed in a series after a long time. What better time than now to run down a legend. Simply because he almost always performs whenever he plays in Asia. He failed in a series after a long time, but most importantly this series was the first one in a long time played outside his comfort zone. Yes, even before this series Sehwag's conditions in those alien conditions were almost the same. And I was waiting to see how he performs in a series held outside the subcontinent. Is it a co-incidence that he has been going great guns in almost every series since the last tour to New Zealand (ironically the second last series played outside Asia, where he failed) and now once again he fails the moment he steps outside Asia after a long gap?
Bublu Bhuyan Posted January 8, 2011 Author Posted January 8, 2011 Since when did 4th innings superior stats prove that he is not a FTB? When exactly did I say that? I made two different paoints - 1.) He struggles outside Asia. 2.) He is a bonafide choker in 4th innings of test matches. Tendulkar' date=' Sehwag, IVAR and Hayden/Langer/:punter: have proved that a great first innings performance is what wins matches most times.[/quote'] Guess what? Those players except Sehwag have good/descent 4th innings averages. Is it so difficult to admit that he struggles big time while chasing in the 4th innings of Test matches? Or are those stats manipulated by me in some way, shape or form?
