putrevus Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 You can say what ever you want but beating Aussies three times all by innings that too in their own back yard is something of historic proportions. They have totally outclassed Aussies in all departments Aussies had no chance in the series , you cant even beat minnows three times by innings in a series.Their batting and bowling have become world class. Bowling is where they have impressed me most and by looking at their bowling strength it is safe to say they have best bowlers in the world right now.Yes SA has two better bowlers but they don't have any spinner or third seamer to put constant pressure after opening burst. This same Aussie team ran India very close in both test matches that too in India but had no chance of competing with them.If their bowling was a clinic then their batting was a dream starting from saving the game in Gabba and then demolishing them in next 3 of 4 tests. The way they left balls on length was a treat to watch ,they made Aussies bowl to their strengths and wow they cashed in big time. Now comes the big question is this one series phenomenon or have they turned the corner in becoming the next big time dominant team. Nobody expected Aussies to become a juggernaut they became but 1993 Ashes started their journey to summit when one blonde guy announced his arrival in world cricket.
fineleg Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Poms have certainly improved tremendously. Many here expected Jimmy Anderson & co. will flop outside English conditions, but they have been terrific. Yes, Aus have declined a lot, but still super show from Poms. They will be feeling very confident when India tour Eng, and hopefully thats a well fought series. They have a very balanced side with a wonderful spin bowler too. And the addition of United Nations players from South Africa to Timbuktu to Antartica has also helped them.

We'll have the additional firepower of Sehwag/Gambhir at the top of the order which we didn't before when Karthik/Jaffer were the openers. Zaheer Khan will be class in September cloudy/swinging conditions with the duke ball in his hand and three lefties in England's batting lineup. It gives us plenty of time for the likes of Sehwag to recover from his shoulder injury and get a lot of part time overs under his belt as well as Laxman recovering from his recent back problems. I'm sure Sree/Ishant can use the next 9 months to really work on their skills. It should be a fantastic series.

Did they overestimate themselves with guys like Ian chappell singing praises on how well their domestic set up is and any holes can be filled easily. Well Aussie team which started the series lacking a good spinner ended the series lacking everything.

Australia did win the Perth Test, it's not as if they were whitewashed. Steven O Keefe had fantastic record, he deserved a place ahead of Beer. Then I wonder why Steven Smith was selected, if he was selected as a batsman then wrong call as there are plenty others who deserves a spot. Hilfy should have been dropped after the first test. Shaun Marsh should have been in the side as an opener instead of Hughes. Credit goes to England though, their excellent bowling and Cook lead them the glory.

I would still wait a few series before making further comments.. but the balance in their team has improved a lot for sure and might be a good competitor to us especially in the test arena in the future .. but the big question is that can they even win a single match in the subcontinent .. they have never been able to do so in the past and I doubt they would be able to do so now very easily .. overall they are am improved side for sure this is just about the same side we defeated in 2007 except trott and swann..and our batsmen have also played against swann in 2008 and he couldnt stop us chasing 385 on a wearing 5th day pitch...swann is more effective against left handers i think...there is not left handed fast bowler this time for them..last time sidebottom was superb in those conditions... they have good pacers but in England pitches are much slower than SA or Aussie land and with less bounce except Oval which is a bouncier surface..main problem there is swing which is a big factor if conditions are like they were this summer when Australia and pak played and Pak and england played against each other..those were tough conditions for batting mostly

Well Aussie team which started the series lacking a good spinner ended the series lacking everything. We were just outplayed, simple as that. Poor form in key positions (3 & 4) Punter and Clarke cost us a heck of a lot in our batting. To only post a 300+ score 3 times in a 5 match series is terrible. Our openers would get solid starts then one would get out (usually not Watson), then Ponting would come in and get out, Watson would get out for 50 and then Clarke would get out cheaply and all of a sudden we are 4 down with Hussey and Haddin trying to save us. The amount of times this happened was ridiculous. Our bowling line up was not much better, we just created no pressure at all and were so predictable that the Poms just destroyed us. I have no doubt that against a better bowling line up this English batting team would not be making so many runs. We saw when Johnson swung the ball back in, how much they struggled.
