satyam1729 Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Canada's 15-man squad for the World Cup has included three Pakistan-born players who are still awaiting visa clearance to enter India where the team plays four of their six games. The visa wrangle concerns vice-captain Rizwan Cheema, Khurram Chohan and back-up wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq. "(We have been) waiting to have visas processed for several months now," Ranjit Saini, the Cricket Canada president, told Pakistan media recently. "Canada took a pre-World Cup preparatory visit to India in November and the visas were applied for before that. "We couldn't take these players to India and as a result our training plans have suffered. It's a source of distraction and is hurting team morale in general. "We are making efforts but so far there is no outcome. They are the star players of our team - Rizwan Cheema was in the IPL auction." A statement on Thursday from Cricket Canada said they remained optimistic that the visa hurdle will be overcome before the start of the World Cup on February 19. "Recent correspondence from the International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured Cricket Canada that visas will be granted for all participants in the 2011 Cricket World Cup," it said. Ashish Bagai will lead Canada for the country's fourth appearance at the World Cup. Joining Bagai as returnees from the 2007 World Cup team are paceman Henry Osinde and all rounder John Davison. Both Bagai and Davison played in the 2003 edition of the World Cup as well. West Indian-born batsman Tyson Gordon has also been named in the squad while he awaits confirmation of his Canadian citizenship. The squad leaves for a pre-tournament training camp in Dubai on January 26 and will head to Bangladesh on February 8 for tune-up matches against Bangladesh and England. They open their tournament February 20 against Sri Lanka. I was watching them play against TT in regional T20 and he went - "A swipe and a dot ball..typical West Indies cricket". Then Ramdin plays three dot balls in a row. Bagai goes, "Watch out guys, a swipe coming up!" The very next ball, Ramdin steps down the wicket and "swipes" at it and gets out caught at cover. The WI commies were praising it on the lines of "Mind the glasses,Tino" and Curtly was virtually p!ssed at Ramdin. :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

And BCCI, as a part of their due diligence should have anticipated that Canada or any other such country may take people of Pakistani origin in their team and clarified the stance of the Government of India much in advance. What if Pakistan has to play a game in India in the knockout rounds? Will their visas also be stuck in legal wrangles?

Just cause a person has a pakistani origin dosen't mean they are all stupid like Asif to carry inappropriate items. I mean for god's sake, no players will be carrying a bomb in their bag to blast the **** out of everyone ... Come on gov. use some common sence! I don't want to see the WC filled with criticism because of this type of things!!!!

If we had learnt any lesson from that Paki Headley episode, it is that we need to very careful in letting in any foreigner of Paki origin. It's us who will pay for it with lives, if we just let everybody in without careful scrutiny. Elsewhere, Paki born Canada settled taxi drivers are suggesting that the Canadian government should send all Indians back as tit for tat. Delusional fools!

He has no criminal records, no court case pending...Lot of foreign companies come to gujarat when Modi invites them. So when America does it its fine and when we do it, its not.

Honestly if our internal security can't keep track of a handful international cricketers' activities they might as well not call themselves that. Canada should be allowed to field the strongest side possible. Fancy a david headley to 'disguise' himself as an international cricketer in his national side's wc squad to conduct/plan terror against India :haha:..he might as well walk around with a signboard on his head saying... If we agreed to host a major international tournament - we should make sure everyone gets to play in it.

It is the Pakis the world have a problem with, not Somalians, not Iraqis, not Iranians. There is only one nation which is a pain in the ass to the whole world, and I don't need to name that country here.

It is FULLY NECESSARY. It is attitude like yours that has caused India a heartache multiple times in the past. They have not denied their visas, they are taking their time to ascertain where the hell were they in the past -- quite possibly in the Pakistan when they visited that land (which they in all likelihood they did). It is just not the cricketers there are many businessmen from top companies in North America -- who are getting delayed in getting their visas who have had remote connection with Pakistan. More than likely anybody and everybody who has visited Pakistan in the past is being scrutinized heavily -- and nothing wrong with that.
