Why is it BCCI? Why? Why??

My first thread on ICF. Yaay . I've always had this question, and didn't know whom/where to ask. Why is our cricket board called the Board of Control for Cricket in India? Who suggested this name? What kind of a totally ungainly and misappropriate name is that? Control??? Really? Is it an epidemic or a bout of sickness that it has to be 'controlled'? Cricket is not a disease, its the passion of millions of people in the country. It has to be nurtured, not controlled. Why could we have a simple name like how the Australians or Pakistanis or the New Zealanders do? Why? I demand answers.

BCCI needs to control cricket because cricket has huge money. They dont want any competitors, hence a very apt name indeed.

The thing about the board is that its private body. This was thus meant not to be out of control jungle raj like some of our govts. Well, that's what they envisioned, a 'controlled' atmosphere.

Thats the kind of a name you would expect from a communist state.
