No' date=' this is a non-issue...[b']There are other keeper batsmen who are batting better than him based on current atm. But him being a captain makes him not so easy to dislodge him mpre than his keeping.
who?

Those calling for Raina to be selected ahead of Yuvraj seriously need to go smell the coffee. I remember Marrirs_mania saying in some thread that if India wants to have an iota of a chance of winning this World Cup' date=' [b']Yuvraj must be in top form. And I guess everyone will agree that it is absurd to say that Raina must play ahead of Yuvraj or even Yusuf for that matter! You call a spade, a spade? You just can't do that. Apologize!
You have yourself said it - Yuvraj must be in top form. Now just see his form over the past 2 years and tell me whether he is in top form (or even anywhere near his best). Yuvraj is currently the worst batsman in the team and I don't want to waste one bating position on him for the all important World Cup. This is the World Cup and carrying players just on the basis of their past performance or big names is'nt going to work (we all saw what happened to India in 2007 World Cup). If Yuvraj Singh is out of form then he needs to be dropped and we need to bring in Raina who has been batting quite well and has had only one bad series in SA in the past few months. I don't see what wrong Raina has done in the past few months (except batting poorly in SA, where Dhoni, Yuvraj, Rohit Sharma, Sehwag all struggled) to be dropped in favor of a batsman who has absolutely struggled.

Yuvraj is a high-impact player, be it with bat in hand or the ball or even in the field, where his electricity might have slowed but his presence provides a sense of faith. If he wastes his opportunities in the World Cup, we may not see him playing as regularly for India as he does atm. But one good inning and everything changes. We all know what that monster is capable of pulling off.

Raina as a batsman is well ahead of yuvraj over last year in odis. But yuvi bowls really well in odis. This is a toughie. Pathan is undroppbale now as is monster, Dhoni is wk and skipper also undroppbale. Kohli is so reliable now and is run maschine. Seems staright fight between Yuvi and Raina.

UV deserves this WC. He will do well, I've faith in. He has that madness in him which can destroy any opposition. Just remember the catch he took in the 3rd ODI against Proteas..and then run on the field and other players following him to hug him..And the look in his face..Fultu madness..Let's not make this team full of goody-goody obedient boys, out there to get a Nobel prize for the captain.. I love those moments.. He is a MUST in the Indian team for this WC. Just by the way wins the matches and celebrates, he should be an automatic selection...

Agree. Yuvraj will have a great worldcup. Those wanting raina prolly just started watching odis.

Raina, Kohli and GG are very important for us to win this World-cup. They bring a lot of energy in the field which motivates the whole team apart of their batting. Yuvi and Kaif has played similar role in 2003 WC in which we qualified for finals. But now Yuvi is shadow of what he has been in the past, though his bowling has improved he is not the same live-wire he used to be in the past. For right balance, playing Kohli,Raina and GG in XI is must.

Raina is awesome while playing in India. I think he holds a pretty much fixed spot in all of the ODI games. We all know what UV can do when in form so we have to give him some more time and just wait for him to get into the flow of things. He is one of a kind in the middle order and can not be replaced when in form. He can score very quickly in the middle overs where most players slow down. Kohli is a great no.3 player but that does not mean he can replace Raina at no.6 or 7. There has to be slots for particular playing positions and stroke players should not replace big hitters/finishers. We have Gambhir at no.3 who should not be replaced by Kohli. For me it's between Kohli and UV in the middle order for one spot. I would still choose UV over Kohli.

Replace the name Yuvi with Afridi and you'll become a Paki fan! All your post contains is hope not conviction; "when in form ... when in form .... when in form ..." Is he since the last so many months? So should he be chosen? Although I do agree MSD will go for both Yuvi anf Raina and drop Kohli, no matter how hot he might be right now; just the easier way out for him!

Yuvraj can't be dropped because he is by far our best part time bowler. Dhoni is the captain and wicket keeper. That leaves Kohli and raina. And with yuvraj and dhoni out of form we need another batsman that can come in at number four and can score runs without playing high risk shots and so I would give the edge to Kohli. If the top 3 get of to a good start then Yuvraj, dhoni and Pathan could bat ahead of Kohli and we should be able to get a good score regardless of what Kohli does at number 7, but if we loose early wickets its important to have a batsman like kohli that could come in at number 4. So IMO Raina would loose out.

It would be unfair to Raina to expect him to average 40+ average at a fixed no.6 spot. If somebody is expecting no.6 and no.7 batsman like Raina and YP to average 40+ at their respective positions then either they are fooling themselves or do not know properly about cricket. Especially when neither Raina nor YP has ever been promoted up the order to an opener, no.2 and no.3 even when half the team is injured. They hardly get benefit of PP overs, they have to play under pressure always as a lot of wickets fall till they arrive and the team is mostly under critical situations and to add to that they do not even get to bat in a lot of their matches or only get to bat a few balls. So, how do you expect them to perform anything comparable to Gauti, Veeru, Kohli or for that matter even UV or Dhoni. Give them a break. They are always kept down the order irrespective of circumstances and injuries to other players and newbies are given better positions than them and most of Raina's critics still want him to average 40+ and that sounds ridiculous. I am a great fan of Veeru but to be frank if Raina or YP would have been given opening positions then maybe they could have also hit centuries and blast the opposition like Veeru or maybe even do better than him. Many of the fans here need to understand that a fixed no.6 or no.7 cannot hit 100s or 50s that easily as compared to a top order or even a middle order batsman as they hardly get opportunities or benefits available to top order batsman. It would be unfair to say Raina must be dropped as he has been the best ODI no.6 in the world. Either UV or Raina will be dropped but that is because there is scarcity of batting positions and not due to talent. UV in in a lot worse form compared to Raina but he might get benefit due to his bowling but I still think Raina would be able to handle in Indian pitches better than UV in their current forms. I would have demoted MSD to no.7 and told him to start practicing his helicopter shots once again so that he can become a finisher again. I would promote both Raina and YP at least one step up in the batting order as MSD has not done anything to deserve a better batting position than the two of them.
