Eden Gardens loses a world cup match

A ground like Eden Garden deserves a good contest like India-England. It's a real shame that BCCI and other project administrators had to ruin it for the fans. First it was CWG and now this.

good pics Satyam :hatsoff: shows ICC doesn't dare blacklist mumbai .....completely different rules when it comes to Kolkata...they also don't give two sh1t about what people would want...the hassle to change travel itinerary, re booking hotels. that a soul Shashank Manohar is just another Sharad Pawar...didn't do a damn thing to pressure ICC to keep the game @Eden

When their pockets are full, no one takes anything seriously. There should be public litigation towards all the grumpy old men In fact, if this whole task was given to Modi..he would have given a world class event. Yes, he would have gulped 20% cash but it's no different then th folks involved now but at least he would have made things happen Me and my friends used to call this "todi" , what is "todi" to a bunch of teenagers form Bandra who need cash for Clubs, Gas, Smokes, Booze, Gifts for GF, food etc.. "Daddy, I need to pay tuition" How much ? 5000 Rupees , 1000 Rupees to the Tuition and rest pocketed This is exactly what happens now but "todi" has become high level

What's with the request for extension of the deadline ? It takes a bloody few months to a yr to erect a cricket stadium. They couldn't finish the renovation/maintenance over so many damn yrs ? Please, no compromise every freaking time an event is to be held.

Who wants to get shot at for a damn cricket stadium, there's bigger issues to give your life.

CAB blames it on IPL The greatest sign of incompetence is the refusal to accept it. CAB does not belong to any other category. Now they have a new whipping horse, namely the IPL. http://www.deccanchronicle.com/sports/snubbed-eden-officials-blame-it-ipl-test-413

Kolkata, Jan. 28: A day after Eden Gardens faced the embarrassment of being snubbed as a venue for the India-England World Cup game, the Cricket Association of Bengal still seems busy looking for excuses. Although a section of senior officials admit the entire renovation process should have been completed a month ago, others look to be living with the mindset with which work used to be carried out before the 1987 World Cup final and the ’96 semifinal. The latest addition to the causes that delayed the entire work is the Indian Premier League matches and the India-South Africa Test from February 14-18. “The IPL matches (at Eden) ended on April 20 and it took quite a few days to demolish the super hospitality box built for the T20 tournament. Work could begin only on May 12,” CAB stadium committee chairman and ex-secretary Chitrak Mitra said on Friday. “Besides, work had to be stopped for as many as 15 days owing to the India-South Africa Test. At the same time, I had mailed ICC 18 points on the renovation process but there wasn’t any response whatsoever from them,” he added.
Lol..the drama continues....:two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up::two_thumbs_up:

I cannot believe that some of you guys are actually pointing fingers at other cities and saying 'you are no better than us'. WTF does it prove anyways ? As I said, India as a nation failed to show any competency in hosting a global event. I won't be surprised if we somehow *** up F1 race that is to be held in Delhi. And PJ dude, I seriously feel bad for you as your plans (which you must have had started to pen a year or two ago) went kaput cuz of some *******s at upper hierarchy. To those who are 'infighting' to justify their cities' power, just imagine how a non-Indian would feel had his plan(s) failed the same way it has for PJ (PJ's an Indian and he can swallow this *** up pill somehow). That particular non-Indian would certainly avoid India's trip in near future.

Thats a very Pakistani mentality. When you fail you try to pull others down rather than accept the fault and try to improve.

Pranab to talk to Pawar over Eden WC match impasse

KOLKATA: Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that he would speak to ICC president Sharad Pawar about the impasse over holding the India-England World Cup cricket match at the Eden Gardens. "(Cricket Association of Bengal) president Jagmohan Dalmiya came to me on Saturday. I had a talk with him. I am not familiar with the matter so much. I will, however, talk to Sharad Pawar," Mukherjee told reporters. "Any problem about holding the match will have to be resolved by them," Mukherjee said without elaborating. Dalmiya, after a meeting with his CAB colleagues, headed straight to Mukherjee's residence on Saturday, but had declined to talk to the media. On Thursday, the ICC ruled out Kolkata as a host venue after its inspection team deemed the Eden Gardens unprepared and expressed concerns about various facilities in the stadium being ready in time for the February 27 game.
http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/world-cup-2011/news/Pranab-to-talk-to-Pawar-over-Eden-WC-match-impasse/articleshow/7390278.cms Lets see how the talks between these two go but one thing is sure - if Pranab Mukherjee wants it then the match will happen in Kolkata whether the stadium is ready or not.

Match will stay in Eden Garden IMO. This will never teach our cricket admins to improve as no action will be taken against any one.

It is all but over for Kolkata. It is official. Ind-Eng tie gone. No use of playing victim. They got what they deserved for being so lackadaisical during inspections. Time to fire the CEO of CAB Dalalmiya.

This is really sad news. Eden Gardens is clearly one of the best stadiums in India to watch Cricket. Dalmiya has squandered away a perfect opportunity to shine and regain some of his lost mojo.
