saneindian Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 WC 2011: Jolt for India, Praveen Kumar still unfit? 1 Feb 2011, 1433 hrs IST, AGENCIES In what comes as a huge blow for Team India ahead of the 2011 World Cup, reports have suggested that pacer Praveen Kumar, who injured his elbow during the South Africa series, has not yet been declared fit to play in the tournament starting February 19. Praveen Kumar will be heading towards England tomorrow for an urgent treatment of his elbow, thereby raising eyebrows on whether he would be fit for the mega event to be held in the Indian sub-continent. After his return from South Africa, Kumar has been recuperating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. Kumar has been crucial to the think-tank''s scheme of things in one-dayers, bowling tight overs and giving the team the much-needed break throughs. He has been fairly successful with the new as well as the old ball, and often used the long handle to good effect. Cricket is not always about stats,We need a wicket taking bowler on flat picthes even if he goes for runs .Look at our bowling attack 1-Kumar-Bowls well with new ball then he is useless cannot bowl a bouncer or yorker relies on change of pace also Averages 61 In india with economy of 5.81 2-Munaf-Bowls decent line and length and handy with the new ball and again useless in middle overs in subcontinent 3-Nehra-Horribly out of form In world cup Say we are defending 260 under lights who will take the wickets ,most picthes will be good and with out some pace we will be really in trouble. Last Series against Nz in india sree was unplayable while kumar and nehra were hammered,and he did not get a chance in odi series in sa even after bowling so well in tests,this is unjustice. in last few years he has done well in odis ,he our best attacking option on flat pitches ,his odi record has improved in last few years also.

He takes wickets only when ball swings..in Lanka, it was a fast bowling track...in India, ball doesn't swing...PK has a very poor record in India

With just a fortnight to go for the cricket World Cup, Kumar remains under an injury cloud as he is yet to fully recover from the elbow injury he sustained during practice before the ODI series in South Africa last month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India officials and selectors are keenly awaiting Wallace's medical report on Kumar's injury status before taking a call on his World Cup participation. It is learnt that the three selectors, who are in Vishakhapatnam for the Duleep Trophy final, have not been informed by the Board to look out for Kumar's replacement. If Kumar is ruled out, the BCCI will have to convince the ICC about allowing them a replacement since he was carrying the injury when his selection was done. As a Board insider informed HT, their defence will be that Kumar had picked the injury while participating in the SA series. Kumar had spent a good amount of time batting and bowling at the nets at Victoria Park Cricket Academy in Meerut on Tuesday morning. "He didn't show any signs of fatigue or injury during the training and was in his usual touch while batting. He even bowled a few overs in his natural style," said the academy's coach Sanjay Rastogi while talking to HT on Wednesday. "He (PK) was at the NCA for rehabilitation and was here in the town for a few hours for some personal work," said Rastogi. His brother Vinay Kumar also said PK was absolutely fit. "He will certainly be a part of the Indian team at the mega event," Vinay said.
