@PK .. he sang it live on many concerts and even on the set of Amul Music ka Maha muqabala...
http://www.rediff.com/chat/shanchat.htm From Mahadevan himself in above chat ""First of all I am a human being so it's impossible to hold my breath for three minutes or else I would have been a dead man :) The song is a concept song and we have executed it perfectly. For your information, SPB has also not sung that entire para in one breath which he admitted openly. And NO, I was not influenced by that song. "

seems like a scam :hehe: btw, some of Shankar Mahadevan's best songs are in Tamil, for....you guessed it, ARR. It was ARR who introduced him to the music industry, just like he did with Hariharan with Tamil film songs in Roja, altho Hariharan had sung a few hindi songs before Roja.

Whenever he sings it live in a show, it certainly looks incredible.

Whenever he sings it live in a show, it certainly looks incredible. He sang it live with Sriram Indian Idol winner and he was just allover Sriram with his singing and voice presence..it was that awesome...

He is right and you are right too, but you are not understanding the difference..I am not saying he sang it with no breaths...it was the way he sings it normally even in live shows..he is taking breaths but you believe that he is singing it in a breath...its the way he sang it makes it awesome...i have never listened its recorded version...I have only listened it whenever he sings it in a live show...he sings it full..breath stops are there but you don't feel that is the greatness... I don't claim to be the biggest fan of Shankar or ARR...i am just talking in general...they both are as good for me

Well if you had two kinds of food, both great, and one had greater reach and helped unite the people of the world, then there is a valid comparison. :winky: Ill Pi, for you :winky::winky:
:--D OTT: ARR is the best. There is no need for a debate. Period.

I find Shankar Mahadevan fans going gaga over breathless just so annoying. Even if the song was sung in one breath ( which it is not) what does that add to the song as such? Nothing. Its a great physical feat with no relation to the song. If Lata Mangeshkar sung "Aye mere watan ke logon" standing on a moving motorcycle while juggling 3 knives, would it have made the song greater? Its just an additional gimmick with no real musical purpose. Thats it. Why should it be any different for 'breathless'.

Buddy, don't misunderstand me. I like Mahadevan too. But when people say that he is an all time great because he could sing breathless for three minutes that I take exception. Singing breathless or with multiple breaths should not be a criterion to judge the greatness of a singer.

AR Rahman is THE BEST!! Maa tujhe Salam, Yeh jo des hai mera is a proof that ARR is just unmatchable and a pure magician.... on topic with Shankar Mahadevan, the guy is just pure media hype music director and singer...and don't know why the guy sings all the songs of his album.. His song 'tere naina'from chandni chowck to china is a proof of how he kills his music ..man he jus buthchered it... His voice in that song makes it feel as if a 60 year old guy is asking out 20 year old girl.. I even hated his voice in 'Jhoom barabar jhoom'

but shankar has produced some good tracks too , u cant take away that from him p.s : i am not talking here about the op
he is no match for ar rahman. Its like comparing Virat kohli to don bradman. Ar rahman is light years above any music director india ever had.
